Having burnt its fingers in the Mother’s Agenda and Satprem episode, the Ashram, it seems, doesn’t favor any precipitate action against Peter Heehs or his new biography, The Lives of Sri Aurobindo, whereas a chain e-mail informs that a signature campaign is on for submitting a mass petition for his expulsion.
There can, of course, be no two opinions as regards validity of protests and, being an emotive item, no one’s motive can be questioned in the current conflict. But the hush hush manner in which this crusade is being mobilized is far from desirable. Certain people thought it fit to stick out their neck which, obviously, has converted into an imbroglio involving their personal prestige. As such, it is incumbent upon them to come out in the open and argue their case in public.
When they avoid facing such democratic negotiations, and the Ashram does not care to disclose the contents of communications received so far, the whole procedure looks as draconian or a leaf from the medieval times.
