Regardless of with what noble motive the book was written, a follower’s savage insinuation involving the Masters is a reprehensible matter. That he has done it stealthily from the sacred precincts of the Ashram is doubly atrocious. By uttering in print something repugnant for the first time he has chosen to make himself a subject of hatred. The deep pain and anguish his act has caused in countless hearts can never be quantified or compensated.

That the Ashram takes disciplinary action and fellow inmates exhibit commensurate behavior to safeguard their turf is expected. But it is incumbent upon us the devotees who are outside not to drum up support for the forces of hatred. A tolerant democratic spirit should be the guiding principle. There should not be any objection to publication of the book in India. The best form of retaliation would be to match scholarship with more scholarship. [TNM] Reply
