The Mother & Sri Aurobindo: 1872 - 1973

The incredible story of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo from 1872 to 1973 is too complex to be characterized in a straightforward manner. But if the phenomenon is looked at from a religious angle, then the things become easy to comprehend. This is the retrospective approach, which is also denounced as hagiography. The case of cultural accomplishments in ancient India is pertinent here. The normal academic opinion is that the Upanishads are advancement over the Vedas, whereas Sri Aurobindo insists on the reverse. This dispute cannot be settled by arguments, so is the divinity of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo.

The divide is clear-cut; either you believe in their divinity or not, nothing in between. There is the likelihood of many beneficiaries pretending to be believers but a day comes when the falsehood is exposed. The crowd of admirers who leave no chance to hog the limelight, similarly, have to be demarcated. People who dishonestly subscribe to multiple faiths also need to be segregated. Because these are the people who are spreading confusion in the minds of the genuine devotees by addressing all kinds of public functions. Beware of such liberals. [TNM]
