Four reasons for the neglect of Sri Aurobindo's writings

In his Preface to Nationalism, Religion, and Beyond: Writings on Politics, Society and Culture (Delhi: Permanent Black, 2005) Peter Heehs cites four reasons for the neglect of Sri Aurobindo's writings:
  • Many of his writings are out of date,
  • Political, social, and intellectual worlds have changed,
  • Laxity in presenting him in suitable academic format; &
  • Inaccessibility due to lack of compact anthologies.
His mission of rescuing Sri Aurobindo from being appropriated by the Left and Hindutva camps as noticed in his earlier books continues here also. But the role of The Mother, unfortunately, receives short shrift, invariably. [TNM]
