Savitri is dearest to all of us

It seems likely that 50-51 and 54 camps can come to a compromise and looking any further would be simply out of question. So much of sentiment and devotion is involved here that any suggestion of some reasoning traversing tangentially will be impossible to admit.

This is an unenviable situation prone to the allegation of anti-intellectualism and intransigence. Heehs’ faults may be many and over-enthusiasm and over-confidence might have overtaken him, but each and every emendation that he has incorporated cannot be labeled as malafide and erroneous. At least, there is a scope for examining the whole list case by case, instead of throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Scholars and devotees are, therefore, requested not to harden their positions in public and avoid turning this a prestige issue. Savitri is dearest to all of us and peerless in preciousness and let’s apply all our prudence and generosity on how to tackle this tangle. [TNM]
