Who owns the Sri Aurobindo Ashram?
A number of suggestions for efficient management of Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Puducherry has been offered by Sraddhalu in his letter of July 28. While complaining of “favouritism and nepotism,” he justifiably demands appointment of a set of new trustees. “A dose of normal life as an Ashramite without political privileges will surely do them good,” is his apt prescription for the present executives.
But, how can this be effected? What are the procedural avenues? Who owns the Sri Aurobindo Ashram? Unless these aspects are discussed and suitable modalities thrashed out, then dreaming to dislodge Das Gupta is nothing but 'Mungeri Lal Ke Haseen Sapne' (to quote, Sonia Gandhi).
The next important point is who replaces Das Gupta. We are yet to hear any name in this regard. And then comes the question of his antecedents, acceptability, and competence. As long as these are uncertain, Das Gupta reaps a rich harvest of TINA crop, and the crowd kowtows him.
Even so, there is nothing to lose heart as long as we clutch on to the moral key. [TNM]
