Sri Aurobindo is indispensable

[POSTHUMAN DESTINIES R Posted March 28, 2012 at 2:50 pm Permalink I see yoga as an important key to achieving freedom from ones culturally determined responses. But that said, this does not take me back to any subjective essence, because yoga itself is a culturally determined practice]

If we review the period from May 1968 to the crash of Lehman Brothers in September 2008, the impression we gain today is that the West stands strong. And there is no gainsaying the fact that distilled cultural values contribute to this tenacity and stewardship. Globalization, today, mostly connotes spread of Western attitude and preferences.

So far so good. But The Mother & Sri Aurobindo have given us some firm commands as regards the future of humanity. And that clue is Yoga or unity, whatever may be its genealogy. Further, they have set forth some terms and conditions for this evolutionary progress and insist that it is inevitable. Those who don’t care for their words can jolly well ignore these.

But they have written extensively and argued their case in a brilliant manner. We are yet to find someone who can beat them in their craft. Academicians, deliberately, restrict themselves within the confines of immanence, and hence, lack integrality. The intervention of Sri Aurobindo, therefore, is something which the West can’t do without. And for that what is needed is humility and not hubris. [TNM55]
