Four years of furore

Chanced upon The Lives of Sri Aurobindo for the first time yesterday in the Sahitya Akademi Library. Only three people have issued it in as many years. The get up and the font looked old and uninviting; the data-ridden text intimidating. Heehs, obviously, was authoring a classic and being from the Archives, he must have intended the ancient look for the book. To ignore the sentiment of the modern-day buyer/reader, however, is harakiri.

The book may not qualify as a dependable biography but its uniqueness lies in cataloging all available negative references on Sri Aurobindo along with evidence apart from introducing a few more. Thus, it earns a well deserved place in history. [TNM55]
