Experts falter and hence though a non-specialist I offer my opinions on different subjects. Partisan views and jaundiced outlooks have become so common that no one is shocked any more. Still the role of right standpoint has relevance and validity. Young people should be vigilant.
Political philosophy in India is an understudied area. Western theories certainly don't capture the complexities of Indian diversity. Besides, many anachronisms of a long civilisation persist. Sri Aurobindo, however, doesn't offer any piecemeal solution. His panacea is evolution.
Savitri is full of critiques of human imperfection and finitude. But the tension of a spiritual pull towards divinity gives it the character of a gospel of emancipation. Sri Aurobindo continued to revise it till his end. Its poetic beauty apart, the philosophy of life is splendid.
The Colloquy of Indra and Agastya appeared in the first issue of the ARYA on August 15, 1914. There is no dearth of experts on our traditional texts but how many can fathom why Sri Aurobindo selected this particular hymn to begin his series of selections?
The biggest challenge before the devotees of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo is how to put All life is yoga into practice. With no fixed rituals or stipulations to observe, freedom is as much an inconvenience as an advantage. That is Integral yoga; entirely subjective, yet universal.
Thinking of the Ashram when The Mother or Sri Aurobindo is mentioned is a wrong habit. Similarly, being reminded of the Freedom struggle in relation to Sri Aurobindo is also defective. #SriAurobindo wrote books like The Life Divine and Savitri and should be evaluated accordingly.
Sri Aurobindo is not a philosopher in essence. His concern is transformation of human nature and descent of Supramental consciousness through spiritual means. His explanation may be termed as philosophy but the practice aspect is by way of volitional yoga and evolutionary action.
The Mother & Sri Aurobindo met each other for the first time on March 29, 1914 and a new religion was born. I have named it as Savitri Era Religion and been demanding govt. recognition since 2006. Also, handing over the administration of Matrimandir and Auroville to the devotees.
A large number of people were inspired by The Mother & Sri Aurobindo and became their admirers and devotees. Unfortunately, their children didn't have the same allegiance after parents passed away. Legal recognition as a new religion will plug this loophole and will be inherited.
Many are under the impression that the present govt is the best friend of issues concerning The Mother & #SriAurobindo. The lackadaisical manner in which Sri Aurobindo's 150th birth anniversary year was celebrated is a good proof. Devotees need to be vocal in articulating demands
Good that some discussion on philosophy is taking place and some have enquired about books. Wikipedia articles contain good source of information and most haven't read the very informative entry on Sri Aurobindo. For Western philosophy Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy is best.
People assume things in terms of traditional religions but for us The Mother & Sri Aurobindo are the one Supreme Divine. They are always present and preside over the constant evolutionary march. Surrender to The Mother is essential for any progress in the spiritual path of yoga.
Sri Aurobindo's writings come after one hundred years of Renaissance in India and more after German Idealism and British Romanticism. His immediate predecessors like Nietzsche, Freud, and James had influenced him amply. His own original contribution however is much more profound.
Many of Sri Aurobindo's poems and plays have strong women characters. The Mother too has a preeminent position in Integral yoga. A bias towards Tantra can't be ruled out. But the mother-child relationship was perhaps found to be most powerful and effective. This is new innovation.

The dominant political faction has captured the institutional infrastructure dedicated to The Mother & Sri Aurobindo almost everywhere. Still it's to be hoped that the true devotees won't surrender before power or pelf. It's upon the devotees to spread the message of the masters.
The vision of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo promises something unprecedented. As the one Supreme Divine, they are in charge of fulfilment of that promise. Old religions have nothing to do with this new adventure of consciousness. Any truck with old religions is anti-evolutionary.
There's no need to view Sri Aurobindo's life and growth in chronological order. The Mother & he being the one Supreme Divine different phases of their lives can be seen as leela involving direct disciples, famous contemporaries, and foreign rulers. History of thought too changed.
It's well-known that Sri Aurobindo used the writing and revision of Savitri for explorations into higher zones of consciousness. Thus words and the English language became the vehicle of a great evolutionary experiment. The fire-sacrifice of olden days was transformed into poetry
After 1926 events are less in Sri Aurobindo's life but his writings in the form of letters and poems have grown exponentially. Crucial political interventions too have much significance. His #FiveDreams broadcast is an epochal document. His articles on destiny of the body seminal.
How The Mother & Sri Aurobindo fought against Hitler and generated awareness about his evil designs is a lesson for all time to come especially when many were willing to associate with him or drawing inspiration from his leadership. Aligning with British at that point was heroic.
It's really surprising that Govt. is allowing the Auroville situation to fester with the ownership question hanging in the balance. The real stake-holders are powerless and rank non-devotees are calling the shots. It shouldn't be forgotten that Auroville has evolutionary import.
A citizen needs to respect democracy and extend his support to the popularly elected leader. He has also the duty of criticising wrong steps of the govt. Since playing both the roles is not, ordinarily, possible, people toe the party-line and succumb to intellectual dishonesty.

Following Sri Aurobindo as a philosopher is very good as he doesn't try to put forth any definite thesis. He speaks in terms of possibilities. But the luxury vanishes when he is accepted as the Supreme Divine along with The Mother. Then it's all faith without asking for evidence.

A devotee is content with just his or her daily rituals and hardly has the time or the inclination for philosophical or scholarly matters. Besides, most people are not accustomed to thinking in terms of humanities disciplines and the intellectual rigour or rectitude they impose.
Being an admirer, devotee, or follower of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo means not to repeat old methods of religion, philosophy, or political ideal. This sets us apart which others won't understand and would find us conceited. So, the need to wear our air of arrogance with humility.
Spirituality confuses many but The Mother & Aurobindo seek to explain the inner structure of the world and the deeper meaning of life, where philosophy and psychology meet. Religion, obviously, is sectarian before this universal vision. In that sense, spirituality can be secular.
Amrit is in news and remembering the Veda in any pretext is welcome. Understanding its meaning properly is also necessary for which there's no better expositor than Sri Aurobindo. The very aim of Integral yoga is Amrita which is the theme of Savitri and The Mother's Mind of Cells
People have always rebelled against tradition and nothing surprising if some are feeling suffocated by the insistence of the trads. Sri Aurobindo has explained clearly that it's futile to reform religion and hence the path of yoga or spirituality. Life is short. Time is valuable.
Sri Aurobindo's firmly teleological ontology takes the mechanical mode of evolution from the hands of science to put it under the will of the divine. In such a scheme, it's futile to blame any particular person's action since each one is playing the role of an instrument of time.
Savitri Era Religion is different with both The Mother & Sri Aurobindo as the one Supreme Divine. It has no fixed rituals or any system of initiation. Just consenting to be a child in the hands of The Mother is enough. Not to worship other gods and goddesses is evidently required.
Sri Aurobindo is remembered minimally in Bengal and Puducherry being in the South, he is out of the radar of the North India. Odisha is one State which has thousands of Centres and educational institutions with round the year celebrations and congregations.
It's needed to understand clearly that the teachings of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo isn't in any way Hindu. They might have used hindu terminology or drawn from Hindu scriptures but considering their debt to other religions and mystic traditions, it's best described as Integral.
Modi supporters among the followers of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo use every occasion to portray them as a part of the Hindu religion. It's a wrong characterisation and self-delusion. Savitri Era Religion needs to be recognised by the govt. and Auroville returned to the devotees.
Three men, Ramdev, Anna Hazare, and Aravind Kejriwal, are responsible for spoiling the democratic norms of our country during 2010-11. Now returning to an ideal situation is very difficult as the current model is being perceived as normal. 2024 offers a chance but where's choice?
After Sri Aurobindo and The Mother passed away in 1950 and 1973 respectively, some of their direct disciples in the Ashram and prominent State-level organisers provided guidance to the devotees. Thus, orientation in each State has its own taste and flavour. Hindu leaning varies.
Philosophers, psychologists, poets, and scientists have foreseen radical changes in human behaviour and thinking. The Mother & Sri Aurobindo too predict Supramental consciousness. The difference is, Integral yoga has been conceived for implementation, whereas others simply talk.
I have always emphasised for adopting a rational approach vis-à-vis spirituality. Integral yoga has no fixed methods nor is it result-oriented. So, avoiding exaggerated expectations as regards experience or realisation is essential, with love for The Mother and reliance on grace.
Much has been written unlocking principal principles of Integral yoga but their working hinges upon the individual who is unique in his or her background, evolution, attitude, and aptitude. Many of the letters of Sri Aurobindo are personal too. Thus, one's psychic being matters.
Being occult practitioners, The Mother & Sri Aurobindo were privy to various mystical streams of their time but never associated with or recommended any. Unlike their philosophical and political contributions, history of this aspect, including Hitler, is outside public knowledge.
