Easy reference to the wide-ranging literature on Sri Aurobindo is a tough job. Sri Aurobindo: A Descriptive Bibliography by H. K. Kaul (1972) was a great initiative and nothing of the sort has been attempted since then

The other day I posted a list of Online resources on The Mother & Sri Aurobindo

Here is a tentative list of PhD theses relating to Sri Aurobindo compiled from various sources. Data provided is neither complete nor can be said to be accurate. But such attempts at comparative and critical study gives the hope that the world will know the real worth of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo, one day. It's because of ignorance that people are following old religions. Once they are aware of the new light and consciousness, their change of heart will be spontaneous. Thus, the power of the words can bring castles down and the scholars have a great role in this transformation.

Sri Aurobindo's third dream of World Union should form the pivot of India's foreign policy

Chronicling the present is an important task by cutting the clutter of the media cacophony and interested propaganda. Phrases like fake news, paid media, or godi media have ceased to shock and jumla is no longer considered as a zulm. The virtual nature of a TV debate or a movie make them seem as a seamless world making discourse look superfluous and subjective which in turn can be dismissed on several grounds such as uninformed, uncritical, or simply incoherent. Human speech, no doubt, suffers from these infirmities and many other ambiguities. Besides, sequence of sentences succumb to subsequent revision of thought in accordance with the response of the audience. Needless to mention that self-interest and self-preservation play their part continuously without, of course, being able to safeguard them adequately due to unpredictable circumstantial unloads.

Be that as it may, there are universal aspects which need to be kept aloft. There are established normatives which must not be allowed to wither away. But no one in the present circumstances feels any such obligation. Most people are prone to take a partisan stand and vulnerable to saying the opposite in public of what they feel in private. Headlines management is another tool to sway public opinion or eclipse genuine information. Overall, the common citizen is powerless before corporate giants and govt machinations. Privacy issues are swelling but judiciary remains a silent spectator before the overwhelming power of the big data and deep state nexus. All these are common knowledge and hence it's futile to labour on them.

What interests us, however, is not the events as they happen or who is behind them but what are the implications for the future evolution. The Mother & Sri Aurobindo used to comment on current affairs but very sparingly. They can be taken as a guide but only to an extent. This century has its own peculiarities and priorities. Technology has brought enormous possibilities virtually in all fields of human action. Culture and aesthetics have undergone massive transformation. Both local as well as scattered commonalities strive for creativity and innovation. All this in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic and war and strife. Thus, there are positive possibilities.

Leaving aside generalities, we may consider a couple of specific issues. I haven't kept abreast of the events in Afghanistan much, but what's the harm if local people rule their country without any foreign intervention? This may sound as naive but the States of India are also crying for Sovereignty to attain their full potential. Why no one is willing to support this well-reasoned demand is a riddle. Sri Aurobindo's third dream of World Union broadcast on August 14, 1947 should form the pivot of our foreign policy. All necessary steps should be initiated in that direction without clinging to the present Constitution born with British midwifery.

The second issue is about a proposed conference in America about which many are worked up in our country a bit disproportionately. A conference, as I have seen, is a talking shop and no new idea emerges if like-minded people assemble. So, there should be no objection to such a get-together within an echo-chamber. That it aggrandises their ecosystem is none of others' business. You have also started writing books and hopping from one store to another to append signature. So, better to work on that than crying foul. This view doesn't disrespect the right to protest and dissent which also carry the advantage of curry favour. Let's hope educated Indians muster courage to accept my independent voice.

College syllabi need to change to accommodate Sri Aurobindo

Twentieth century is famous for suspecting the language. Sentences are slave to grammar and words to logic and hence expressions are either not free or are twisted. For the same expression may mean a different thing under the grammatical structure of a separate language. Besides, the interpretation of the reader being paramount added another nebulous dimension. Yet, we write and talk and communication happens incessantly in real time.

The Veda is believed to be the most ancient composition of words in India. But there might not be much truth in this assertion since it's a compilation done over centuries and the language is much evolved. Any how, much of the meanings of the words used are understood in different ways at present. The whole text seemed to be of not much worth to many great men of learning. Marxists employed their best weapon by calling the Vedic age as the pastoral age of shepherds. Sri Aurobindo, thankfully, rescued the Veda from ignominy and pointed out how its utterances reveal evolutionary destiny.

College syllabi need to change to accommodate Sri Aurobindo's philosophy so that students don't study defective ontologies of the past. They should also be saved from distorted history and false narratives. There should be clear demarcation between history, literature, and religion while studying mythology and related art forms. Deceptive overlapping must be subjected to critical scrutiny. Similarly, not to impose dominant cultural idioms upon others should always be an ethical concern. Hint by Habermas is very pertinent in this context.

Many stress on plurality and abhor any superlative. But if Everest can be the highest peak or Jupiter is the largest planet, then why can't we call Sri Aurobindo as the greatest philosopher? I haven't come across any one else greater than him in versatility as well as profundity. And this can easily be empirically established. I had some respect for western professors for their intellect but they are too parochial or protectionist to recognise the genius of Sri Aurobindo. So fine, we are no more bothered about any favourable reception from them. And, they don't matter.

Our enemies are more within our own home including the devotees. Hindutva can be successfully fought against ideologically but RSS of late is diluting old formulations. This poses a dilemma as things appear more or less closer to Sri Aurobindo. Other parties are fighting for capturing power with Hindutva as the lever. So, no ideological purity can be expected from any of them. But let them provide an alternative for strengthening democracy. Any one ruling for more than 2-3 terms, however, is illegitimate.

Work should be accompanied by constant aspiration

But when it comes to the aims and objectives behind these ventures the differences come into sharp relief. There must be a heightened sense of anticipation when The Mother & Sri Aurobindo were present but the same can't be expected of the present community. Sri Aurobindo has woven the importance of life in general into his highly esoteric philosophy. Nevertheless, life for its own sake was never a very valuable enterprise for him. He loved to draw the broad strokes. never caring much for the nitty gritties since the whole emphasis was on a loftier concern: how to bring down the consciousness of a higher region. Outwardly, he was doing it through poetry and a lot of disciples were kept engaged. But that can't be the sole modality of the alchemic project that he was involved with.

The body is the question and The Mother has explained it in almost every other page of the Agenda. Present constitution of the body is not capable of holding higher consciousness. and therefore the configuration of the cells need to be transformed for arrival of the Supramental. Thus, the physical is the greatest obstacle but the resistance can melt whenever a dollop of higher light and force come visiting. Against this backdrop, even work can't really be of any assistance unless accompanied by constant aspiration. Many of our Centres are busy with day to day activities like education, agriculture, or handicrafts but the central idea of aspiration is often forgotten.

Even in devotional practices, the focus is on silence and surrender. To be as plastic and transparent as one can to higher influences. But aspiration is volitional; it's about being proactive. Courage and ambition matters more here. it's not out of vairagya or the superficial altruistic instincts. Evolution is the engine here and Sri Aurobindo has assured that the next human race is taking shape. Besides, it's inevitable. Present circumstances may not be having much resemblance with such a scenario but that's where we all are moving to.

Sri Aurobindo has given us an immense treasury of hope and certitude

Followers of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo are spread all over the world; belong to different religions. Their books are sold worldwide; in multiple languages. The superiority of their psychological approach to development of self-awareness and self-exceeding is increasingly being acknowledged in informed circles. Speculative philosophy has ruled the roost for two to three centuries but The Mother & Sri Aurobindo have introduced the transformational aspect by way of Integral Yoga. It also incorporates the evolutionary framework tracing its roots to the Veda. Such a synthesis is unprecedented and authentic to the core. Thus, mainstream ontological formulations have become obsolete and dominant religious worldviews have become outdated.

This poses a serious political problem since different nations are affiliated to different religions. Even those claiming as secular, nurture some affinity towards a particular religion. Thus, it's for the individuals to be a little more active to disseminate Sri Aurobindo's predictions for a sublime human destiny. Further, it's a collective yoga and it's through concerted aspiration that we can hope the Supramental force to descend upon the earth in its full manifestation. This aspect is not known to many but this is the core of our whole task. Other facets of Sri Aurobindo's versatile personality can be of interest to many but not forgetting the core job is paramount.

We are in an extraordinary situation, The Mother used to tell and it's indeed so. Strife and suffering are everywhere but Sri Aurobindo has given us an immense treasury of hope and certitude. In his clairvoyance, he said that India is free forty years before it actually happened. During the WW-II too, he was privy to the fights going on in the occult world independent of the ground. So, some human person needn't be blamed for present imperfections, that's the superficial view; grist for the mill of the news channels and newspapers. Instead of bothering too much about development and economy, therefore, being attuned to the inner communion with higher regions of consciousness is essential. There are no fixed methods; one has to choose which book to read or how to offer prayers.
