I remember the thrill as a young footsoldier

Many such facts have been popularised by Marxist historians with a view to downplaying Sri Aurobindo's contribution. That's why the pivot of the narrative I push is #SriAurrobindo and from there the perspective changes in infinite ways. The key is to read. https://t.co/N2vOxDWHZn

Not same. For perceiving difference, one has to read widely. Then why this urge to conflate them? Approaching them individually might be a better way. As regards #SriAurobindo, his Integral Education is also a precursor of Integral Yoga; the spiritual aim is very much embedded.

Hindutva is a cauldron of confusion and it's futile to engage over it with anyone because each one has his romantic and exaggerated view of it. On practical front like rituals or administration of temples, there are many disagreements. On gender questions, many women resist sync.

Vast majority population of our country are not bothered about Hindutva; they live their lives adjusting to local conditions. Only at the time of elections such issues are hyped up. Even then any pan-India picture emerging is a remote possibility. Weaponising against Muslims bad.

#SriAurobindo

Humanitarian sentiment expressed from the comfort of home is hypocrisy. Twitter has thousands of handles who are motivational speakers, mentors, or change agents. Most claim to be philosophers and counsellors. But they haven't read anything from #TheMother & #SriAurobindo.

Prejudice against #SriAurobindo is enormous and it's not easy to disabuse people. Willingness to read is minimal. So zero expectation from the present generation. But this is the hour of the unexpected and so any new initiative can come from any corner. A life of expectancy.

Very nicely put. Yet, we must travel back fifty years to discover #TheMother's sense of urgency during #SriAurobindo's birth centenary celebrations. Odisha really experienced a mass movement at that point which continues till date. I remember the thrill as a young footsoldier.

Please check this site maintained by Matrubhaban, Cuttack for detailed information on the matter. It has got lots of old magazines and souvenirs to benefit from. A trip around Relics centres in Odisha is an added attraction. Nearly 1000 schools are there.

Humility and curiosity are hallmarks of a knowledge seeker but somehow you don't betray much. Read this excellent piece and get acquainted with something outside your limited understanding. Purely optional. Thanks.

I'm not imposing anything upon you but since you are writing on metaphysical questions, it would be an error to confine your area of inquiry to a predetermined territory. I'm passing on the information that Sri Aurobindo has written something on the Veda which no one wrote before.

Obsession, I take as a compliment. I think, I'm the only person on Twitter with this obsession and that's a specialisation built over more than half a century. So, no regrets. Remember me if you need to know about #SriAurobindo at any point. Do me a favour by informing others.

All social phenomena have metaphysical dimension. Marxists are averse to such a proposition. But Universities in their possession is problematic. Young students being indoctrinated is an injustice and coercion. Need to salvage such a situation by introducing #SriAurobindo's books.

1) Party supporters will support Party
2) Modi supporters will support Modi
3) Opposition supporters will support the Opposition
4) Industry supporters will support Industry
5) Media will support whoever pays
6) People will be indifferent
6) Your responsibility to maintain Others are not serious, sincere, or honest; so better not to bother about them. This feeling comes often. But the task is to build a just and fair discursive atmosphere. Holding on to highest values is a Brahmin quality. Others may falter, compromise but the Brahmin will never.

Twitter is interactive. Say something, share something; retweet something. Let the conversation be more vibrant, more truthful. It's that particular moment. Who will find a tweet inspiring, you never know. So be on the flow. TL should be fluid and not rigid. Data or Archives, no.

Is there any ideal democracy or society? Human civilisation has been perpetually in transition. So, how to compare midst distorted history and doctored narratives. Being blind to positive undercurrents like reinforced federalism beneath the froth of a failed nation, not a virtue.

In The Secret of the Veda, #SriAurobindo tells Inner meaning of Soma Rasa which is ordinarily associated with Alcohol or Narcotics. Even creative persons vouch for some inspiration through intoxication. Bruno Marchal is on record to be a live case. But should we take for granted?

I spoke about life in general. As regards #TheMother & #SriAurobindo, you are right but one might experience different phases like Valavat, like a child and Unmadavat or delirious. So there can't be any rules. Those on Twitter must find pleasure to talk Nama, Rupa, Leela, Dhama.

Books enlighten; they also misguide and feed defective narratives. One becomes a victim of wrong impressions and imaginary scenarios. Most people don't read but those who read turn addicts. They are constantly in need of new books and swallow avoidable information. Save yourself!

Excellent exposition. SAVITRI as security is a perfect definition. Thanks.

I am 65 but fail to understand why the three deities in Puri temple have to be interpreted as Krishna et al. What's the compulsion? Why the poets have been insistent on the Radha Krishna imagery? In the absence of definite evidence, why claim Jayadeba as Odia if poem is Sanskrit?

Pandemic and lockdown were an excellent opportunity to review syllabus but no such long term project was undertaken. School children are suffering from distortion of history and other subjects that are arbitrary. Higher education is no less problematic. But who will bell the cat?

Raja Rammohan Roy introduced wide ranging intellectual fermentation in India which others took up and responded in different ways. #SriAurobindo wrote a century later to diffuse confusion by offering enlightened opinion. https://t.co/LFS5C2N0ki
Reading his books is a must for all

Cc @VividHugh
I agree with you but the problem basically is that. Expecting that an ordinary individual will be strong enough to be able to 1) remove objectionable scriptural injunctions or 2) getting rid of community leaders espousing them is unfair and unjust. Why onus on him?

Adam Smith was absolutely down to earth in his economic theory who believed strongly in price discovery in a competitive environment. His phrase Invisible Hand elsewhere has been misinterpreted as mystical or religious which he was not. Besides, his self interest was not selfish.

[This is not to say that promoting the linguistic-regional identity itself is foreign to the Left; indeed the very idea of forming states on a linguistic basis was a Left idea (since “nationalities” in Communist theory are defined on the basis of language)] Prabhat Patnaik 9.6.21

As a life long lover of Odia music

I have no insider information or any ecosystem and so I avoid wild allegations. That various groups are conspiring against each other and peddling disinformation is sure but how effective they are can't be gauged easily. Thus my supposed protection comes from this crowd dynamics.

Hawkish responses are so common but not to consider the other side of the picture is a disability. The Govt. and the Courts seem to be pursuing a very balanced approach in extremely trying conditions. How the future plays out shouldn't be seen as predetermined or forced by a few.

Kalinga Gajapati kings of Ganjam region promoted poetry, and music which was later labelled as Odishi by Akashvani, Cuttack. This Dakshini style of singing inspired by Carnatic music or Karnāṭaka saṃgīta has a distinctive feature of waving. Thus, the nomenclature is arbitrary.

Odisha proper was under Bengal Presidency with substantial cultural difference. Mayurbhanj and Jhumar offered a different style. So by appropriating the name Odishi, the claim of Dakhini music of Ganjam is disproportionate. Geeta Govinda has nothing to do with Odia but they sing.

When they demand classical status, the name Odisha or Odishi should not be awarded. Present Odisha has several regions and diverse styles including modern ones. They are all our own and deserve promotion. The hegemony of this Dakshini singing of Vaishnava poetry is unacceptable.

Specialists can sing well and employ all technical delineation but whether listeners enjoy and are willing to spend time can't be confirmed. Apart from constipated manner of singing, the problem of incomprehensible lyrics poses a huge barrier. But most are drawn because of career

I just conjectured that the waving in Odishi might have been imbibed from Karnatik in which I feel it's very prominent. Or even if it's its own it shouldn't claim pan Odisha currency. As a style or pattern it's fine but claiming a third classical status is dishonest and parochial

As a life long lover of Odia music, I have my own framework of aesthetic experiences that's unique. Others have their own configuration based on age, exposure, or expertise. Someone trying to override my format by imposing some uniformity or systemisation may be valid but unjust.

My fascination with Balakrushna Das's compositions in films like Sri Lokanath, Lakshmi, Manikajodi, Nuabou, Jiban Sathi, and Sadhana etc. forms the basic template. I'm not aware of technical aspects but I just love them. Why should I compromise or sacrifice that before "system?"

"Why should I explain to others what I know so intimately," asks Guru Ramahari Das in his Odishi Pathashala series. His effort at systematisation is commendable and with his level of technical expertise he may be right but along with outsiders I too feel threatened. So I protest.

I don't want to blame anyone; each person has his own background and orientation. He would be guided by that. My fear is that any Govt. certification of Classical status will delegitimise my fragile musical fabric about which I have no technical knowledge nor preservation tools.

Instead of characterising any leader in a specific way, it'd be in order to blame it on the nature of politics itself of which they are merely offsprings. Expecting an ideal situation is rather utopian and hence a delusion, unless #SriAurobindo is invoked. https://t.co/DO4EQP2B4v

One conjecture:
In many Odishi songs the opening is very short like Ki helare. https://t.co/1JJE2xIvQy
Hum tum of Milan has also a similar start. Is it inspired? Further, I had heard that the boat accident was shot at Jobra barrage in Mahanadi, Cuttack, Odisha. #Odia #OdiaMusic

Exactly, any serious intellectual engagement was absent. Modernity in the West had its roots in the Christin ethical framework but importing it by delegitimising local in situ religious grounding created an abnormal and absurd situation which is yet to be resolved satisfactorily.

Very right but I'm simply reproducing what I have read from scores of highly perceptive authors. Please don't blame me if you haven't come across them earlier. But all of them insist that Sri Aurobindo can be described only by superlatives, nothing less. I won't urge you to agree

From the Bande Mataram phase as a political theorist, Sri Aurobindo's transition to the philosopher of a robust Mother-Ontology, is an interesting one. The Divine Shakti of The Synthesis of Yoga disturbs the neat framework that he built in The Life Divine. https://t.co/3DJEEVIVoY

The West has ignored Sri Aurobindo almost entirely

External things are so overpowering that deeper perception or perspectives get neglected. Size, quantity, or numbers hoodwink human beings. Tradition is another trap and tribalism is one more. #SriAurobindo alerts about them in The Life Divine. Please read https://t.co/IHl1DLMQaF

Excellent. But too much reliance on University syllabus. #SriAurobindo on the other hand has an intuitive approach who goes straight into the heart of things. The Veda is the basis he announces and blends it with Evolutionary imperatives. Not yo be missed.

This book is a mischievous compilation of #SriAurobindo's sentences. It's better to go to the original source and understand them within the right context. That will save from wrong impressions and needles delusions. Complete Works of Sri Aurobindo (CWSA): https://t.co/N2vOxDWHZn

Many thanks for your good wishes. I always admire or rather envy your intellect and understanding. May Mother grant due efflorescence to fruition. The time perhaps is further away. Greater challenges or crises may be fermenting! All the best.

Many thanks my long time friend for your good wishes. It may take a month or so.

Crimes committed against Indians during the last one thousand years or more were by Kings and Queens whose sovereignty can't be challenged. It's futile to be sentimental or revengeful about it. Yet, many exploit those episodes to spread venom among the younger generation. Beware!

The West has ignored #SriAurobindo almost entirely although Sri Aurobindo wrote in English. Hardly any Twitter handle dedicated to discussing Sri Aurobindo's thought. Colossal wastage of instant communication facility. Universities are guarding their own agenda and narrative.

Don't find a single public intellectual in India having read Sri Aurobindo as result of which right understanding from a deeper perspective is missing. You can write hundred articles on Sundarbans but deeper ecological and ontological connection can't come without #SriAurobindo.

Actually both books are complementary. When The Mother returned on 24 April 1920, a new era began. Sri Aurobindo wrote on Faith and Shakti in The Synthesis of Yoga by which time The Life Divine had been completed. The genesis of The Mother book is there. https://t.co/ZIiA24Rnbi

Under post Covid home rehabilitation, my difficulties & deficiencies are many. Muscles are weak but Twitter provides stimulation to intellectual muscles. My tête-à-tête with Internet in 2005 has been such an exciting journey. My focus is on reading #SriAurobindo's original books. https://t.co/49Shv11hj2

When anyone is not sure of the situation, it's better to be silent and avoid any reaction. But, most act on political lines and parrot nonsense. It's important to understand that life's demands are deeper and hence knee jerk response is uncalled for. #SriAurobindo guides better.

Modi captured power combating unusual circumstances in 2014. But a lot of deceit and theatrics were also involved. He has transformed the Party and its ideology. He is the Party now; no one else has any clue as to how things move or policy issues. Fine, but no escape from Karma.

I have been campaigning for awarding Sovereignty to the States of India on linguistic basis under a loose federal set up. It will create strong internal solidarity as well as international clout. Diaspora can build up more organic ways of reorganising without an Indian identity.

Many worship Sri Aurobindo as the Supreme Divine

#SriAurobindo was born in Kolkata on August 15, 1872 and was educated in England. Was an official in Vadodara and later became a college teacher there. Wrote poems and read a lot to be acquainted with the Indian tradition. Took interest in fighting the British and went to Kolkata https://t.co/MtOdZwtUgr

First a college principal and then a writer on political matters in a newspaper, he became well known. Moving around to give public speeches didn't take long. British were rattled. He spent a year in jail as an undertrial. Wrote on religion and philosophy. Went to Chandannagar.

He reached Puducherry in 1910 and took interest in the Veda and metaphysical inquiry. #TheMother came from France to meet him on March 29, 1914. A monthly magazine appeard on August 15, 1914 in which #SriAurobindo wrote on diverse topics. It ran till January 1921. #ARYA100Years

#SriAurobindo Ashram took shape in 1926 as more and more disciples joined. He wrote regularly to them to guide on spiritual growth. Poetry and intellectual matters were also prominent. Political discussion was not excluded and an eye on international situation and war was keen.

Deeper spiritual question led him to write a long poem called SAVITRI. The Life Divine was published in a revised form. Writing on such profound matters didn't go unnoticed. Reverence poured in and many started to worship him as Supreme Divine. He passed away on December 5, 1950. https://t.co/8pxWPC32fM
