Ayodhya dispute robbed RSS of reason

Savitri Era: Auroville took birth 50 years back https://t.co/fQfxuXbDTX #SriAurobindo #FiveDreams #Auroville50

Having captured all top institutions under the Constitution, RSS now wants the Defence apparatus to function under it and recruit its cadre seamlessly. Surely a valid dream for Hindustan metamorphosing as a Hindu Rashtra with RSS presiding everywhere like Communist Party of China.

Confidence of winning 2019 may be giving rise to too much of delusion, but Modi is most vulnerable and lonely right now. He is being tolerated but no one wants him to lead due to dictatorial functioning. Bereft of any intrinsic quality or qualification, he is clinging to position.

My response is based upon the written clarification issued by RSS. There are clear signs of unusual thinking and if pursued will lead to fascist environment. Forewarned is forearmed, as they say.

The PM and Party chief hail from a single State which is unprecedented in a federal polity like India. This I feel is fascist but supporters like you turn a blind eye. There are many other complains but hubris among the cadre leads to overlook.

I'm not aware of your work; you may forward some links. You are free to disagree with my views but it has its own validity and relevance in a multi-party Democracy like India. Btw, I don't find many independent voices like me on Twitter and therefore it's all the more important.

Criticism is part and parcel of Democracy and to counter them effectively is Ruling camp's job where they fail. RSS is yet to develop adequate intellectual wherewithal to be equal to the task. Most supporters tend to bully instead of arguing; "hubris and thuggery" said @NMenonRao

RSS works in the field, mingles with people; even befriends (nationalist) Muslims. But intellectuals worshipping Sita Ram Goel seem to be fanatical in their antipathy towards Muslims; spread venom by spewing vitriol in their discourse. Shows how one-eyed scholarship is dangerous.

RSS loves controversies to simmer so that dividends are reaped over a longer period and falsehoods turn into truth. RJM proved to be highly rewarding; this Army discourse is likely to legitimise a claim on it, the way it's being stoutly defended by supporters, across the board.

[solipsism of tribal identity seems the particular danger now - not the individual per se, but the individual self-identified with a tribe. This generally is accompanied with paranoia about the tribe's being "repressed," even where the tribe-in-question dominates.] -Whit Blauvelt

As far as maturity of Democracy is concerned, India doesn't seem to have progressed much during the last seventy years. Technology has aided manipulation modes and ethical compromises have become common. So-called Dharma upholders have perfected the art of Goebbelsian propaganda.

Democracy implies individuals exhibiting autonomy and exercising free choice whereas Religious Nationalism of Hindutva considers people as immature who must be guided and goaded. This paternalistic attitude and propensity of propaganda detests dissent and alternative dispensation.

Culturally, one can imagine anything and seek inspiration from the products of distant past but, politically, one's citizenship is restricted to one's lifetime only. Adumbrating to extraneous attributes or affiliations, therefore, is uncalled for and inimical to Democratic ethos.

Ideological imperatives in India today too require such tender moments to think freely and rightly.

British left in 1947 but USA & CIA became active to further Western/Christian interest through influential lobbies. Apart from MSM, Google, Facebook, and Twitter continue to exercise hegemony over Indian mind even today. Regressive Hindutva is handicapped before ethical challenge https://t.co/I0WGo1riWa

Many pronouncements of Sri Aurobindo during the Freedom struggle can't be defended in a Democratic set up. JP's call to Police and Army to apply conscience was definitely wrong. Warped logic of RSS relating to Ayodhya dispute (RJM) has robbed it of reason. https://t.co/EVXrGBy7ku

Modi Xerox kiosks and Sam Pitroda's STD/PCOs push paved the way for Development. Thus, India is infinitely indebted to the West for what it is today. Modernity and ethical paradigms too are of Western origin including tenets of Democracy and Jurisprudence. https://t.co/FZfuBHYkvu

Hindutva, by valorising Mythology, Rituals, and Superstitions, suffers from permanent intellectual impairment. Sri Aurobindo had diagnosed it early on and wrote out correctives. Those enamoured of RSS can benefit from it and that's his great relevance in charged political arena.

Communism triggered not only political and economic upheavals but also unprecedented intellectual ferment. It's fashionable to trash Marxism today but without it world would have been in a primitive state. Hindutva is unable to reconcile with highly refined stances on gender etc.

Savitri Era Party is opposed to AAP, BJP, Congress, and Left but not ungrateful towards their respective intellectual and ethical contributions. Blanket condemnation is as absurd as blind support or indoctrination. Sri Aurobindo provides a sane lens to pursue independent thinking.

The first and foremost task of every citizen is to safeguard and enrich Democracy; all other ideals like Nationalism are secondary. How Siddhartha Shankar Ray had instigated Indira, Sanjay, and Maneka Gandhi to paralyse civil liberties during the Emergency is a permanent lesson.

Common sense perceptions of say, Annie Besant or Subhas Chandra Bose about Sri Aurobindo surely provide a perspective like the latter's own opinions on Gandhi, Churchill, Hitler, etc. Pivotal insights to understand 20th century history; those unaware of are veritable illiterates.

Hobbes held a critical view of human nature whereas Rousseau painted a favourable picture. The dichotomy can really be reconciled if one imbibes the Vedic dialectic formulated by Sri Aurobindo. Ideology embedded in a sound Ontology has the best chance of standing the test of time.

That "Congress Socialist Party founded in 1934 as a caucus within Indian National Congress" still exerts considerable influence throughout the length and breadth of the country in various avatars (including the ruling dispensation) is an interesting facet. https://t.co/dGM2HH9NlO

It may be clarified that the quotation at the end of the article on Auroville pertains to Sri Aurobindo explaining the tenets of "religion of humanity" conceived by Comte. So, it can't strictly be construed as Sri Aurobindo’s exhortations unlike the above.

Auroville took birth 50 years back

Savitri Era: The Future Poetry was published 100 years back #SriAurobindo https://t.co/LoqNxChB6W

Hindutva certainty breeds fanaticism, the reason being lack of grounding in philosophy. Twentieth century philosophy offers excellent opportunity to test your pet ideas against a variety of highly perceptive perspectives. Ignoring them means ignorance and echo-chamber scenario.

Democracy replaces Monarchy but legitimises hegemony of political parties. People, overawed by their size and spread (amplified in a large nation like India), tend to ignore other alternatives. Such reification of choice is a negation of the very logic of participative Democracy.

Democracy delegitimises religious orthodoxy but establishes political parties as new religions in India. Since Sri Aurobindo is not promoted by any major party his relevance for the future has the potential of exponential popularity. Frustration owing to Hindutva fiasco will help

At this rate, Modi may turn out to be a Gorbachev when India as a British legacy becomes history and the States legitimately become free Republics. #SCJudgesMutiny can have a cascading effect triggering a relook at worn out principles and shibboleths. Evolutionary forces at work!

Digging out such lineages in a vast country like India is a Herculean task and hence it's urgent that the States are awarded Sovereignty by abolishing the Central Govt. as well as the Supreme Court. Rightsizing is essential for effectiveness in Admn. and enabling people's access. https://t.co/DTmv88O6ll

Many followers of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo just quote on Twitter; some refer to certain past events. Time to move on as simply quoting has not much relevance. Issues need to be debated and justifications deduced; that needs thinking. Applying own mind and writing is necessary.

BJP exists primarily on religious glue but it's yet to mobilise 50% votes on its own. So, it will continue to win due to lack of Opposition unity. New players are entering apart from AAP; that makes BJP's task easier. Let's hope that people understand relevance of Sri Aurobindo.

No scientific evidence for ladder of Consciousness that Sri Aurobindo constructs and hence demanding belief on it is unfair. But the fact that the Veda corroborates it is an interesting dimension that warrants sympathetic examination. In any case, his propositions are futuristic.

The 4 Percent Universe theory applies to all aspects of life and therefore it's better to err on the side of caution since discretion is the better part of valor. Ontological speculations of Sri Aurobindo are the most coherent but can't be exact. Same is true for his views on AIT

Public awareness on Sri Aurobindo doesn't travel much farther than "which freedom fighter was born on August 15" like basic information. Ashram approach is confined to Spirituality whereas Auroville is concerned about Development. Political dimension is far away from individuals.

Science has become fulcrum of Theory and even Sociological phenomena are read in terms of fixed patterns or repeatable schema. Present methods of Science are not enough, says Sri Aurobindo, but he hastens to point out that what is subjective today can be a common experience hence

Without laying too much of stress on philanthropy or altruism, The Mother & Sri Aurobindo were on a quest for a perfect society. They valorised individualism but also spoke of collective yoga. Inner love and sympathy dictating an outward organisation and harmony is their formula.

Fighting pessimism shouldn't be the lone criterion and each cited name should be critically assessed for relevance and coherence. One finds many flaws and pitfalls there; so blanket endorsement is neither honest nor advantageous. I'm biased in favour of Sri Aurobindo, of course.

Auroville took birth 50 years back this month in 1968. The political and philosophical fall outs of protests in France and elsewhere in the same year need to be understood in India otherwise its current rulers would like to perpetuate their medieval narrative for another 50 years
https://twitter.com/SavitriEraParty/status/961842193756336128

Your grouse seems to arise due to inadequate grasp on Sri Aurobindo's thought. His Evolutionary theory is the most revolutionary vision the world has seen so far. One needs to study him as he is instead of trying to fit him in hackneyed frameworks like Hindu, Sanatan, or Secular.

Sanatan, as you define it, is too constricted for Sri Aurobindo as can be seen in this chapter https://t.co/lesc7N2eVl from "The Ideal of Human Unity." Your political preference or religious activism shouldn't distort your quest for knowledge and alter what's in black and white.

[love, mutual recognition of human brotherhood, a living sense of human oneness and practice of human oneness in thought, feeling and life, the ideal which was expressed first some thousands of years ago in the ancient Vedic hymn and must always remain the highest injunction] -SA

It may be clarified that the quotation at the end of the article on Auroville pertains to Sri Aurobindo explaining the tenets of "religion of humanity" conceived by Comte. So, it can't strictly be construed as Sri Aurobindo’s exhortations unlike the above.
https://t.co/GQAGZTCszc

Fine. So, what's your complain against Auroville? It's only trying to give shape to Sri Aurobindo's prophecy. People of various countries are living in Auroville and each one is free to follow his or her religion. There is no compulsion nor any sort of imposition. In a plural society, such a liberal millieu is inevitable. Your opinion on other religions is same as their opinion of Hindu.

For you Sanatan is synonymous with Hindu and excludes Semitic religions. You are free to hold such a view; it's valid and legitimate. But those following Sri Aurobindo like me won't approve such a narrow connotation. Human unity accomodates all religions and people of all nations

As a follower of Sri Aurobindo, I'm trying to communicate his ideas that are scattered over forty volumes. It's not logical to judge him on the basis of a couple of quotations. Besides The Mother's writings and conversations spanning thirty volumes also matter. Life long learning.

India's Rebirth is a compilation of quotations and can't replace Sri Aurobindo's 40 original volumes. You are free to propagate RSS ideology but reading Sri Aurobindo can help enlarge your worldview. That's a suggestion but your implying that I'm misrepresentating is not correct.

Fine. My firm view is that RSS has deviated from its original inspiration and as of today no one can follow Sri Aurobindo and RSS at the same time. If you feel that you are capable of doing that, good luck to you. But thanks to Twitter, I share my view without imposing on anyone.

I respect your opinion and more so because of your interest in Sri Aurobindo. There is a great number of Sri Aurobindo's followers who are ardent supporters of RSS, like you. However, I pursue a different line and presume that many people endorse my thinking too, albeit silently.

Agree with you. I think, the word medieval derives its pejorative sense from premodern European situation. But then, all is fair in polemics!
https://twitter.com/SavitriEraParty/status/962405730342105088

The record of RW sites like @OpIndia_com @SwarajyaMag @myindmakers @IndiaFactsOrg @Pragyata_ @rightlog_in apart from SS & @maidros78 during the last four years in building a dependable source for history is not very promising. Avoiding Sri Aurobindo's thought is a common feature.

Four years in power but BJP by and large sticks to the Nehruvian consensus (a secular and plural polity in a vast country like India) and doesn't claim possessing any superior principles from the Hindutva stable. But some from its ecosystem continue to make such empty assertions.

All those who dread living in a huge joint family and want to escape its pains must aspire for a Federation of India with the Republic status passing to the States based on languages. There is no inherent virtue or glory in living in an abnormally large and unmanageable country.

People in Europe have deep religious and cultural bonding beyond their national boundaries and the same can happen when the States in the Indian subcontinent are granted Sovereignty. Languages are the best foundations for formation of cohesive nations with manageable population.

Though a votary of Science, Aravindan seemed to push Mythology as a synonym for "Indic framework." February carries the memory of The Mother

February carries the memory of The Mother and her life long endeavour for disseminating the Evolutionary imperative among people of all nations transcending the prevailing imperialist sentiments on the one hand and a strict empiricist attitude in pursuing life's goal on the other

The period from 1872 to 1973 constitutes the most pregnant in human history. The Evolutionary work of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo is yet to capture the imagination of people. However, the East-West synergy witnessed during the period is a most interesting dimension for the future. https://t.co/W3Wlfq3wav

Both science and philosophy have made great strides in the West leading to thinking about human problems on the global scale. Sri Aurobindo inaugurated such an Integralism and pursuing it with greater emphasis and openness is urgent today. So Hindutva is a prison better abandoned

Hindutva survives on Tulsidas' literal reformulation of Valmiki's Ramayana but Sri Aurobindo looks beyond and provides a thorough symbolic interpretation of Vedic deities. His stance against Mythology and Rituals on one hand and Shankara on the other prick. https://t.co/IaNNHz6jTa

Sri Aurobindo had opposed Congress in 1907. JP's Total Revolution was inspired by the Integralism of Sri Aurobindo. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya’s integral humanism too borrows liberally from Sri Aurobindo. Lohia and Ambedkar, however, were deaf to Sri Aurobindo. https://t.co/SsdyS01Ggf

Between 1910-50 Sri Aurobindo was in Puducherry during which he wrote extensively. His ideas have travelled far and wide but his political vision as encapsulated in his August 14, 1947 AIR broadcast is yet to gather moss. Marxists ignore him and Hindutva perceives him as a threat.

MT supports AIT and Hindutva hardliners curse him but no one has been able to discard his thesis. Readiness to accept science is a basic need but Mythology remains the touchstone for most people. Some scriptures prescribing that only some scriptures are valid is a circular logic.

Many dedicated Hindutva handles ridicule Islam and Christianity without any sympathy for the lived reality. The Mother & Sri Aurobindo, on the other hand, focus on the Individual and his or her level of aspiration for higher consciousness instead of pejorative religious labelling

Many from Hindutva camp nurse visceral animosity towards Gandhi and a couple of Sri Aurobindo's quotes circulate. A more realistic view is Gandhi proved to be an effective antidote against Hindutva as well as aligning with Hitler. To that extent he served Sri Aurobindo's purpose.

Hindutva ecosystem loves its echo-chamber and Gandhi is uniformly abhorred but the Marxists' concerted attempt at deification of Gandhi is patently outrageous. Indians must avoid these two extremes so that they discover Sri Aurobindo as the real force behind Freedom on 15.8.1947.

The Mother & Sri Aurobindo predicted annihilation of old religions and, consequently, Savitri Era Religion emerges. Instead of demanding legal recognition for it some hawks, ridiculously, keep on lambasting Modi, pathetically, for not doing enough for safeguarding Hindu interests

Followers of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo are a minority but possess the most potent ideology for transforming the country and the world. They must not kowtow before Fascist forces just because they are in power. Not to compromise with principles or ethics is the very sign of them.

Modi is a textbook case of Machiavellian politics propped by a Kafkaesque RSS. So, seeking validation of Sri Aurobindo's vision from these shady quarters is downright abominating. Congress and the Left have to be opposed; doesn't mean Modi and RSS automatically be the beneficiary.

Many Hindutva enthusiasts love to mention Sri Aurobindo along with Vivekananda but it stops there. Understanding Sri Aurobindo is a difficult and long-drawn process. RSS worldview is diagonally opposite of Sri Aurobindo's. So trying to follow both RSS and Sri Aurobindo is futile.

A reasonably objective understanding of 20th century history can solve many problems of our country. Regrettably, educated people have no qualms to abet a biased account of men and events. Right assessment of Gandhi, Subhas, or Ambedkar, for example, can save many misguided youth

Presently, Modi attracts harsh criticisms as well as lavish praises. So, how should a historian look at him? Certainly, not easy. But one thing is crystal clear: he has deviated drastically from Hindutva that RSS supposedly espouses. So, he can be accused of revisionism like ABV.

After three years, Modi supporters have fallen into three different blocks:
1. Thoroughly disenchanted with his frivolous approach to urgent issues like history text books.
2. Reconciled to his Congress like policies and resigned to some long term advantage.
3. Lost hope on him.

A wish for the young and educated before #RepublicDay ends: Critical reason and scientific approach in understanding Reality without believing in any grand narrative or glorification of past. Eschewing mythological fiction by internalising Psychological interpretation of the Veda

Sri Aurobindo is deeply indebted to Western poets and philosophers: Homer, Heraclitus, and Plotinus; Dante, Goethe, and Milton; Coleridge, Blake, and Arnold; Nietzsche, Bergson, and James, to name a few. Besides, his political ideas resonate with Burke, Fichte, Mazzini, and Renan

Sri Aurobindo's synthesis of ideas and his Integralism, no doubt, are original but he draws from diverse sources and references to Western thinkers are very much part of his oeuvre. For instance, European Influences on Sri Aurobindo’s Thought -M.G.van Dijk https://t.co/Ustmd3XYxe

Peter Heehs has about a dozen books to his credit on modern Indian history, religious traditions, and Sri Aurobindo. Unfortunately, Hindutva enthusiasts avoid Westerners; otherwise his books provide the most dispassionate survey of a wide range of events. https://t.co/BwUZpJXUjz

Poetry of Sri Aurobindo and the large body of his literary output remain unknown and underappreciated. His philosophy is relatively more known but his popularity mostly rests on a distorted version of his early nationalism since scholars dither to capture his more mature thought.

Democracy delegitimises religious orthodoxy but establishes political parties as new religions in India. Since Sri Aurobindo is not promoted by any major party his relevance for the future has the potential of exponential popularity. Frustration owing to Hindutva fiasco will help

Particle physics is beyond my comprehension and each of us has his or her own limitations. But discouraging others by sweeping generalisations because of personal lack is a lackadaisical approach. Overcoming negativism should be the first lesson to be learnt from Sri Aurobindo.

You are right and therefore the Savitri Era Religion. A large number of devotees visit the Sri Aurobindo Centres regularly and attend Darshan Day functions four times a year. Pilgrimage to Puducherry is also a regular feature for many. They imbibe the message slowly but steadily.

There are several @ignouonlinehelp courses to choose from apart from @sakshitrust and @Gnostic_Centre etc. where one can learn Sri Aurobindo's philosophy systematically. Further, nothing is more helpful than self-study if one has some amount of conviction, curiosity, and interest

Communications explosion has redefined the concept of community or collectivity necessitating remoulding the modalities of Democracy. Colonial legacy in India makes it all the more compelling to overhaul the Constitution of India for which non-governmental efforts are also vital.

It's pitiable to see many lamenting against the partition in 1947. Some others curse a section for being out to breaking India. No one explains the benefit of living in an overpopulated country. Creation of about 50 new nations with around 50 million (5 crore) population is ideal

Changing the world was never so easy. Those with a large number of followers just outrage or tweet a few wishes and feel that it's done. Nothing needs to be done on the ground. No need of networking or walking the last mile. It's no longer mere discourse;it's instantaneous action

Suspect all past texts and documentary films; contest all narratives including party manifestos. Authorities and stipulations are mere speculations since Philosophy, Physics, and Religions are all blind. Evolution is on but its course is unknown; so better to keep fingers crossed.

When the present States of India become "Sovereign Republics" with the option of forming a Federation, the new Federation has the potential of really becoming a very large block covering countries from Central Asia to ASEAN. This will drastically alter the prevailing world order.

Instead of debating 1947, it would be far more profitable to discuss future partitions and granting Sovereignty to the States. That all South Indians are descendants of demons is a mindset from which RSS can't free itself. Modi's Freudian slip is hard nail in the coffin of India.

Auroville took birth 50 years back this month in 1968. The political and philosophical fall outs of protests in France and elsewhere in the same year need to be understood in India otherwise its current rulers would like to perpetuate their medieval narrative for another 50 years

A Mythology-centric polity is antithesis of modernity. Renaissance discourse seems to have receded into background and hence the urgency of foregrounding the Integralism of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo so that a spirit of inquiry pervades to challenge tradition and stoke creativity

Too much of guidance on yoga philosophy and mystic poetry in Sri Aurobindo's writings has kept the kernel of  his sociopolitical thought shrouded. His followers active on SM would do well to dwell on these relevant dimensions so that MSM is sensitised about such crucial omission.

The destiny of India got derailed when the Cripps’ offer was rejected in 1942 despite Sri Aurobindo pushing for it unequivocally. The tragedy continues till date in various forms. Commitment to come under his banner firmly is essential to throw Hindutva obscurantism out of India.

The Mother & Sri Aurobindo hesitated to assure any miraculous transformation of human nature or society. They advised patience and endurance for Evolution is all about the play and not the dénouement alone. The passion, the tension, the intensity; they all form grist for the mill

Some timeless classics need to be enjoyed in original.

It was certainly shocking to read Capt. Ajit Vadakayil exposing Gandhi but later SS & Co too have campaigned against him. [The British used Gandhi to disarm and demoralise the patriotic revolutionaries of India, like Bagha Jatin, Aurobindo Ghosh, Surya Sen, Jatin Das, MN Roy etc]
