Tomorrow is The Mother's birth anniversary. Her whole life was dedicated to establishing Sri Aurobindo's point of view on a firm foundation against much ignorance and resistance. That is in jeopardy today as more and more find it beneficial to be co-opted by the ruling ecosystem.

Book recommendations reflect one's taste as well as intellectual horizon. Instead of known and popular titles which most might have devoured, challenging themes, especially in the non-fiction genre, should attract attention. Of course, it entails stepping out of the comfort zone.

Odia is the only classical language beyond the South and is nearest to Sanskrit in pronunciation and vocabulary. It has the most beautiful, rounded script in the whole world. Sadly, most people are unaware about it due to lack of development in the State and nonchalance ol the CM.

Those born in the current century live in a different environment and for them it must certainly be at variance what constitutes culture or entertainment. So imposing thousands of years old imagined versions on them is absolutely absurd and unjust. Canons of aesthetics change too.

YY commends Devy's Mahabharata bur its essence has already been encapsulated by Sri Aurobindo in SAVITRI by incorporating the Vedic imperative. Overlooking that and wallowing in drama and fight can't be indicative of a mature culture. Intellectuals still ignore him with impunity!

Sri Aurobindo has written thousands of pages but they are yet to be accorded official sanction. Without political patronage, it's difficult to sustain any intellectual or religious tradition. In the meanwhile, kids are busy with things like art installation and flower exhibition.
The function of philosophy is to explain how life goes on. As it's known to no one, books keep growing. Anil Seth, in his book, Being You, aptly says everything we perceive, from objects to emotions our perception of the world, ourselves included, is a “controlled hallucination.”

The name Sri Aurobindo has hidden within it the evolutionary power of resolving all conflicts and discords and finding the right trajectory. The real purpose behind outward events may not be evident but The Mother & Sri Aurobindo are very much in charge through twists and turns.
Time and again, I have expressed my reservations against literal interpretation of many topics Sri Aurobindo wrote about, so many decades back. His comments in conversations too should be treated correspondingly. Many of his aphorisms also can't just be taken at the face value.
Countless forms of human activity and creativity take place all the time. From the clamour of stock markets to cut throat competition within the entertainment industry, the killer instinct drives the show. We must be thankful that Sri Aurobindo's philosophy exists amid all these.
Sri Aurobindo has written extensively, and in the best of English language, which has rendered all previous philosophies and religions redundant. Recognising this basic fact is necessary for all those who waste their time and life pursuing futile avenues.

It would be unfair to evaluate Dayananda on the basis of the present state of Arya Samaj, plus he is criticised for his outspokenness and activism on many counts, but it shouldn't be forgotten what he did, single-handedly, for restoring the Veda as the original fount of knowledge.

Philosophy used to be the science in olden days but due to quantum leap of science during the last century, philosophy has almost become barren. Interestingly, Sri Aurobindo's philosophy holds the fort and provides an authentic ontological framework spanning physics to psychology.
What Sri Aurobindo presents in The Life Divine is a blend of many streams of knowledge suffused with evolutionary force. That makes it different from other philosophical literature. Doubting Thomases can check his credentials from Record of Yoga (CWSA 10).

Sri Aurobindo liberates philosophy in general, and spirituality in particular, from the tyranny of Sanskrit. By writing SAVITRI, he unveils a lofty dimension of English language, viz., mantra. Thus, British occupation of India can be said to be driven by evolutionary promptings.
Calling Sri Aurobindo as Yogi, Rishi, or Maharshi is an insult to him. He signed as Sri Aurobindo and would very much like to be addressed by this adopted name without any patronizing prefix or suffix (no eclipse too). It's unfortunate that a recent biography dubs him as Mahayogi.
References to Sri Aurobindo occur rarely and one has to check the index pages of a book under A, G, and S. Sri Aurobindo is one composite name and hence the right place for index is under S. Publishers should standardise such niceties for academic rigour, instead of sowing error.
During the Press days, some amount of austerity and objectivity was ubiquitous. But in Media era, brazenness and cacophony have been normalised. Further, an empiricist view of current affairs is forced down the viewers' throat. Sri Aurobindo's followers know evolution is behind.
Nineteenth century philosophy was a great melting pot and we must remember that Sri Aurobindo is yet to intervene. Churnings in science, religion, and politics too make the scenario more complex. All those thinkers are important for tracing the history of ideas and current war.
The concept of a nation-soul existed prior to Sri Aurobindo and to see it as a fixity is flawed. A group-soul or a team-soul can form depending upon the situation and necessity. Two factions in Auroville, today, harbour two different faction-souls where individual voices coalesce.
