Avoiding other traditions and teachers

The path of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo has this implicit assumption that whenever their names are invoked, the Evolutionary march gets animated. Remembering them, therefore, is itself considered as a potent form of practicing Integral Yoga. Apart from the conventional nama-rupa-guna-lila-and-dham modes, a more engaging avenue that is available to us today is to examine their words upon the framework of our own experiences and reactions or correlated social responses. Articulated coherently, they also constitute skeletal documentation of this nebulous realm that is no less real than say nimble chopsticks. The sociological dimensions of voluntarily following a spiritual discipline are manifold involving stereotypes and speculative views. Faithful accounts are rare for the fear of being treated as unreliable and frivolous or disclosing failures. One problem area in this context is how to deal with other traditions and teachers?

Indian Philosophy in English: From Renaissance to Independence edited by Nalini Bhushan and Jay L. Garfield has a delightful collection of articles and commentaries. While sympathising with the academic compulsion of accommodating diverse viewpoints, let me put it a bit bluntly that such a practice is inadmissible in Yoga. They may be great writers or leaders, but their role in relation to the Evolution may be questionable. So, the safe course is to avoid them since The Mother and Sri Aurobindo have been palpably reticent in recommending others. The recently issued CWSA volume-II of Letters on Yoga has ample guidances as regards inadequacies inherent in other paths and philosophies.

The firmness, however, is less available when we apply them to our present situation, especially politics. Followers of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo are now sharply divided in their support and we at Savitri Era have taken the line of opposing the dominant national parties like the Congress, the BJP and their allies including AAP. But the option of possible alliances with them is very much open and alive. 2014 happens to be the Centenary year of the The Mother's arrival in Puducherry and the Arya (not to speak of the WW-I) and hence the election outcome cannot be devoid of its own significance as a push towards the Life Divine. Uniqueness of Sri Aurobindo

The current issue of Sraddha has several references to Vivekananda and a whole book-chapter. Rajiv Malhotra's Indra's Net and Jyotirmaya Sharma's twin volumes are noted treatments too. But a definitive estimate vis-a-vis Sri Aurobindo is still awaited. In fact, such a demand is perhaps defective at the first place and that's the line we have been following for long.

Without any claims to a decent level of scholarship, let me state with a blogger's credentials and carelessness that any sympathetic approach towards Vivekananda, Tagore, or Gandhi is an injustice to Sri Aurobindo. Debts or similarities are nothing but at the fringe level and we don't perceive the difference due to too much of familiarity. Just think of the present day India without Sri Aurobindo; no The Life Divine and no The Secret of the Veda. How shallow is the intellectual level? And that's the standard our Perennial philosophy-wallahs like RSS and RKM propagate.

Building statues and temples is part of competitive politics and intellectuals will not lag behind in erecting scholarly monuments, but the role played by Sri Aurobindo is entirely different and unique. This can be understood only by the devotees and longtime followers. The Mother's arrival in Puducherry a Century ago is a stark reminder of how only she knew who Sri Aurobindo was. That distinction needs to be protected with zeal by the Savitri Erans. [TNM55]

Sri Aurobindo integrates the Veda with Vedanta

Sri Aurobindo happens to be a prominent member of the “philosophy written in English in colonial India” club. The diverse dimensions of his work defies precise labelling and safe genealogical mapping. But how he reconciles the demands of reason with the primarily intuitive utterances of the Upanishads is a treasure for the present generation. Integrating the Veda with Vedanta by bringing them to identical wavelength is his unique contribution and hence any treatment of disparate texts sans the connotations he unveils should seem as inchoate and arbitrary. The just released updated volume of his “Hymns to the Mystic Fire”
(freely available online at
stands as testimony to his profound hold on the original intention of these ancient pronouncements. So, to neglect the hermeneutical tools Sri Aurobindo brings to the table would mean to geld Sanskrit of its native splendour and Indian Philosophy its vital wonder. [TNM55]

Sri Aurobindo establishes a firm benchmark

Savitri Era Party @SavitriEraParty 7h Injustice & corruption can never be eradicated so long as relatives and friends continue to condone or even encourage such acts of a person.
Savitri Era Party @SavitriEraParty 8h Socialism will survive as long as natural calamities inflict large scale disasters as market forces shrink inordinately during such moments.
Savitri Era Party @SavitriEraParty 9h Dreaming of a rosy economy is a survival kit against depression for many armchair commentators who fail to reconcile with what prevails now.

Savitri Era Party @SavitriEraParty 8h Congress and BSP declined due to one-person dominance; BJP and AAP are likely to meet the same fate. Third Front must internalize democracy.
@SavitriEraParty: @Realist_Indian Play of real and regional forces should enthuse all democrats, the impending slugfest and thwart on economy notwithstanding!

Ontological intention vis-a-vis diversity

@SavitriEraParty: How Google or Twitter reconfigure their Republics over the next decade hold much greater hope & promise than what Obama or Modi can imagine.
@SavitriEraParty: Evolution, mercifully, loathes to discriminate between Sociology and Religion, Psychology and Oceanography and rides roughshod over borders.
@SavitriEraParty: Parroting We shall win rhetoric is a pathetic feature of being in the Party politics that blunts precision and integrity in daily discourse.
@SavitriEraParty: Sri Aurobindo distils the core of intuitive knowledge that percolated through the Centuries to serve it through Savitri and The Life Divine.
@SavitriEraParty: @doubtinggaurav How insightfully Sri Aurobindo responds to Nietzsche should inform our present predicament and predilections a Century later.
@SavitriEraParty: Neither Periyar nor Lohia had any clue to the causal and evolutionary aspect of religion that Sri Aurobindo so forcefully emphasized upon.
@SavitriEraParty: Religions are not merely fancies of human mind or geographical exotica; ontological compulsion behind their function must grip our attention.
@SavitriEraParty: Rise and fall of Religions in India is also linked to the swing in the fate of the respective Philosophies over time. http://t.co/rhdIgkB7WI
@SavitriEraParty: Whether the polar vortex or evolutionary escape velocity blow awareness on ontological relevance or not elections will veer round the local.
@SavitriEraParty: If morphology alone is to be taken as a sign of some ontological profundity vis-a-vis diversity then a federal spirit seems very much valid.
@SavitriEraParty: Region, religion, castes, languages, and even dialects decide the fate of the candidates. No idealistic escape from such a reality in India.
@SavitriEraParty: Let no one be under the illusion of leading or building a "National Party" at least in 2014. The mood of the country is unambiguously local.
@SavitriEraParty: The Prime Minister, this time, is genuinely emerging from the grassroots and not descending through a parachute or via any compromise route.
@SavitriEraParty: Never before in the history of India Lok Sabha elections was fought on such a federal basis as is going to be this year. Surely a watershed!
@SavitriEraParty: Ideological tags irrelevant now as personalities have come to dominate the political firmament. National Parties give way to State leaders!

Added focus on action over what Sri Aurobindo wrote - 4

Corruption has agitated from Adam Smith to Anna Hazare and civilisation has been a quest for overcoming human imperfections. The Mother & Sri Aurobindo, however, see ethics as inbuilt in Yoga which is a joint operation between human effort and Divine Grace. But the tragedy is that many institutions run in the name of Sri Aurobindo have turned dynastic fiefdoms and dens of corruption. Some educational institutions are a sorry spectacle. While the great virtues of education and creativity are extolled outwardly, demeaning hankering for power and manipulation continue as undercurrent. So, the lesson is mere enrolling as a seeker is no assurance for ethical behaviour.

From this perspective, the role of proper management, rule of law, administration of justice, political correctness etc. become crucial. How even a highly motivated movement like AAP is floundering in Delhi is a lesson for all. Human affairs can't be dealt with by mere common sense any more in this complex world; very refined and rigorous policy making is essential. Further, there are no fixed, textbook solutions; sensibilities emerge as situations unfold and responses shift in commensurate fashion. Media and advocates foisting twists complicate the situation.

Ban on the book robbed much of the moral ground and it has become indefensible over the years. A parallel can be drawn to the Minister in Delhi who has lost legitimacy for moral policing. Loss of credibility like the Michhua Radhua can play havoc on the part of an individual or organisation. The Mother introduced many exemplary modalities in the Ashram but some others can justifyably be criticized for being harsh on human wants and emotions. So, whether they can be pardoned today in the pretext of spirituality is a much larger question. Devoloping competence and sagacity for judging such matters is also urgent and we need fresh texts to fall back upon. [TNM55]

Added focus on action over what Sri Aurobindo wrote - 3

The Mother passed away before the TV arrived in India and hence it was a sort of primitive age. The Internet today has transformed the Indian society to a huge degree. The type of professions has multiplied so also infotainment avenues. Pressure on youth for early success has robbed many options from life. So Yoga, as The Mother & Sri Aurobindo formulated it, is no more an easy proposition. Reading the detailed explanations of Parts of the Being spreading over several volumes is a remote exercise today. In short, Integral Yoga is far away from the priorities and preferences of the youth.

In contrast, some other religious camps are flourishing by imaginatively marketing recreational events and well-being modules. Being affiliated to influential sociopolitical organizations also raises profile as well as popularity. The Mother & Sri Aurobindo, however, have been averse to such techniques from the very beginning. The level of ethics they insist makes one unsuitable for team-spirit and group-dynamics. Thus to reconcile Yoga with ordinary demands of life or casual religious approach is an uphill task. Rise in prosperity is adding more hurdles to practicing simplicity.

The truth is that all these difficulties were not unknown to The Mother & Sri Aurobindo but without dealing with them theoretically no assured results for practice of Yoga can be offered. The safe heaven they created in the form of the Ashram is also in doldrums. So it can safely be concluded that their teachings are impractical both in theory as well as in practice. But fortunately, this conclusion has other implications. No other solution can be said to have any credible prospect and in comparison The Mother & Sri Aurobindo stand heads and shoulders above them in many respects. [TNM55]

Sri Aurobindo has saved from the tyranny of Indian Philosophy

Tusar Nath Mohapatra on 25 January 2014 at 7:01 am said:
Demarcation between philosophy proper and history of Indian philosophy has been deep since the arrival of Sri Aurobindo in the scene. This year marks the Centenary of his magnum opus “The Life Divine” and other original works like “The Secret of the Veda.” The Evolutionary dialectic of his Integral Ontology seeks to establish a universal template of philosophy that acts as applied psychology as well by suitably incorporating poetic aesthesis. So, not to include him in the list would be an injustice to the future of human civilization and education. [TNM55]

Tusar Nath Mohapatra on 26 January 2014 at 6:16 am said:
Bringing in other names while thinking of Sri Aurobindo is a real problem; so is the period during which he wrote. Most of his books, fortunately, allow us to concentrate on the subject proper and a slim volume like “The Problem of Rebirth” or “Heraclitus” can introduce one elegantly to his philosophical project that dovetails into poetry too.
Though neither germane nor palatable, let me say as a nonspecialist here that it is Sri Aurobindo who has saved the modern day Indians from the tyranny of “Indian Philosophy” by offering an alternative set of literature in English reading which is transformative as well. [TNM55]

Added focus on action over what Sri Aurobindo wrote- 2

Apart from pointing out the newness of their philosophy or the synthetic nature of their yoga, The Mother & Sri Aurobindo have been careful to reject founding of a new religion. A following, nevertheless, has taken shape after their departure accentuated by the periodical ceremonies celebrated at the Ashram and regional Centres. This constitutes an added aspect to their complex legacy and needs to be confronted astutely by theoreticians. Political dimensions arising out of the religious identity also should be grappled appropriately.

Tracing the evolution of Sri Aurobindo's opinions, itself, is a challenging task. So when it comes to deciphering additional tendencies obtaining after his departure, it's verily a minefield to stray beyond his written words. But the task has its own validity as Sri Aurobindo never considered his own path as a separate category for comparison which, nonetheless, has come to modify his prognostications. The founding of Auroville, similarly, has considerably altered the texture of dispensation originally conceived by The Mother. These practical results, howsoever unsavoury, need to be accommodated within a more charitable appraisal of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo leading to their realistic appreciation.

This brings us to the question of authority as well as authenticity. Since each individual is constrained by a set of personal experiences and cultural setting, his impression is bound to be subjective. So the way the disciples have attempted to portray the Ashram life when The Mother was around belongs to a bygone era. Or how Her devotees carry on their lives in the outside world and confront the demands of the dominant religion has never really been tackled theoretically. Thus the challenge is to look at the teachings of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo from a realistic perspective and the altered socio-political situation in India. [TNM55]

Added focus on action over what Sri Aurobindo wrote

The Mother & Sri Aurobindo have left behind around 80 volumes of collected works that includes paintings, poems, plays, speeches, essays, letters, messages, translations, and conversations spanning over a period of 80 years. Since the contents are of a specialized nature, they attract a very restricted kind of readership. The dense character and vastness of the writings prevent many from going through them all even as some of them are still unpublished. Secondary literature, however, is flourishing and varied estimation of the Masters are mushrooming. The works of the disciples or dedicated sympathizers are precious as credible introductions while commentaries or comparisons with the opposite intention are not uncommon.

Apart from their writings, the Ashram at Puducherry and the Auroville community owe their existence to The Mother & Sri Aurobindo. Besides, a large number of institutions run all over the world by drawing inspiration from them. Thus, a distinct cultural, religious, and political identity has come to be associated with the followers despite their being geographically scattered. The thrust on integration of the East and the West and Human Unity in the teachings of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo is responsible for the internationalist bias on the part of their devotees. Access to Sri Aurobindo's works is also facilitated since he wrote in English.

The Mother travelled from France to Puducherry in 1914 in order to meet Sri Aurobindo and so action preceded their philosophical collaboration. The amount of activity The Mother has inspired theresince is surely unparalleled in the human history. Interested students will be studying this phenomena in the years to come but authentic documentation of the present decades is woefully inadequate. In the absence of truthful tales narrated by the current crop of practitioners, impressionistic accounts by cunning swordsmiths are taken to be as genuine. Problems associated with writing and publishing, reach and interpretation etc., however, cannot be evaded, but a more web-enabled discursive environment could have developed over time contributing to theory. Sri Aurobindo had the advantage of not dealing with his own theory as a new category

@SavitriEraParty: Sri Aurobindo had the advantage of not dealing with his own theory as a new religious or political category which we are forced to do today.
@SavitriEraParty: Lack of popularity, no doubt, is a severe disability for Sri Aurobindo's teaching but by no means for its worth or relevance for the future.
@SavitriEraParty: Negligible success both on the spirituality & philosophy front after 63 years of Sri Aurobindo's departure forces us to be humble on claims.
@SavitriEraParty: Dissonance between theoretical formulations and actual performance by people or organizations associated with Sri Aurobindo bogs scrutiny.
@SavitriEraParty: Though seeming elitist or abstract The Mother & Sri Aurobindo actually strike at the most pertinent & intricate problems of human existence.
@SavitriEraParty: Ethical licence is implicit in Monarchy and as a legacy political parties do condone moral transgressions in Democracy. AAP has come of age!
@SavitriEraParty: India is doomed until intellectuals need to be told about the importance of Sri Aurobindo's writings which they fail to notice on their own.
@SavitriEraParty: Sri Aurobindo resisted bolstering the Nazi forces and despite all his patriotism, Netaji fails the test of aligning with Evolutionary arrow.
@SavitriEraParty: Uncritical extolling of historical personages is fraught with risk and The Mother & Sri Aurobindo offer a safe guide https://t.co/gcMKxuuTYz
@SavitriEraParty: Leftist atheism, Nehruvian secularism, and RSS obscurantism are hurdles for full blossoming of Indian nationhood that Sri Aurobindo insists.
@SavitriEraParty: Sri Aurobindo understands the ontological worth of religion for future Evolution of man and neither RSS-BJP nor AAP. http://t.co/syPMskdrN7
@SavitriEraParty: TOI edit is spot on on electoral arithmetic but forgets about the deeper issue of place of religion in nation-building which BJP-RSS stress.
@SavitriEraParty: More than any particular religion or geographical territory Sri Aurobindo is concerned about the future man, his destiny & moulding society.
@SavitriEraParty: Like many choosing a school or hospital by building-size and not by teachers or doctors, RSS valorized tradition by ignoring Sri Aurobindo.
@SavitriEraParty: RSS itself denotes an abstract form of Hinduism but is victim of supporting contradictions accumulated over the period of last 60 centuries.
@SavitriEraParty: Perceptions on its performance notwithstanding the theoretical stance of RSS on religions is accommodative & informed by a fraternal spirit.
@SavitriEraParty: Is this the sign of Indian culture and Hindu pride? Not a single person can stand up and say that Modi cannot win 272 and won't become PM?

Go for the Veda

Tusar Nath Mohapatra on 20 January 2014 at 7:01 am said:

Gaveshana or Research derives from the word Go meaning light, a connotation brought to light in modern times by Sri Aurobindo in his epochal The Secret of The Veda. This hermeneutical coup has so unsettled the received wisdom that there is unwillingness to look at the later texts in terms of the Vedic Sanskrit as unveiled by Sri Aurobindo. This blog, however, is a sign that such resistance will recede. [TNM55]

Antiquity of sources can't be only criteria for ontological veracity

Aware of the constraints of not straying outside the texts and syllabi, let me mention for the sake of discussion that later day philosophical formulations contain many ingenious notions like Sanghita or Loka-Sangraha to predicate emancipation. The problem of rebirth itself undergoes substantial transformation in the hands of Sri Aurobindo and hence antiquity of sources shouldn’t be the only criteria for ontological veracity. [TNM55]

Conversations are subject to inertia of motion

@SavitriEraParty: Much like Ekta Kapoor, Ramdev, Modi, Anna Hazare and Kejriwal have explicitly proved the Katju remark that 90 percent of Indians are fools!
@SavitriEraParty: Pop-Hindu puja rituals largely drawn from Tantra entail a sense of mechanicity like Astrology & Medicine enticing politicians for assurance.
@SavitriEraParty: The portrait of politicians as popularised by the Bollywood serves as a fine template to cash in on Reality TV familiarity and enchantment.
@SavitriEraParty: CMs moving around the country addressing rallies is like University Professors attending Conferences at home and abroad neglecting students.
@SavitriEraParty: Constitutional propriety demands that Chief Ministers with national ambition should resign from their posts & don't comment on other States.
@SavitriEraParty: None of the established parties in India is prepared or willing to field someone less than 60 years of age as the next Prime Minister. Why?
@SavitriEraParty: Pranab Mukherjee and Advani as PM probables are likely to play as two opposite poles of Indian politics in May to attract the State satraps.
@SavitriEraParty: @bhoopalp Advani will have the advantage of numbers over others & not be at anyone's mercy. Not age but his experience will see him through.
@SavitriEraParty: @bhoopalp Of Savitri Era Party. Perhaps we are the only people to support Advani as PM at the moment as BJP-RSS have no confidence in him.
@SavitriEraParty: @bhoopalp Of Savitri Era Party. Perhaps we are the only people to support Advani as PM at the moment as BJP-RSS have no confidence in him.
@SavitriEraParty: @arungiri Expect not more than 20 seats for BJP in UP plus Bihar and all India tally will be just 100.
@SavitriEraParty: @thinkoutofbox The situation in each State is different. Let's take Odisha and I don't think AAP can win even a single seat. So in TN & WB.
@SavitriEraParty: @thinkoutofbox AAP's limited success in Delhi was expected. But its party structure in other states is nonexistent, lacking local charisma.
@SavitriEraParty: @thinkoutofbox See, we are speculating on the basis of the present realities. But your being so optimistic about the AAP borders on fiction.
@SavitriEraParty: @thinkoutofbox Despite best of circumstances, AAP couldn't secure a mandate in Delhi. In rest of the States, it will draw a blank.
@SavitriEraParty: @thinkoutofbox The numbers right now favour a Third Front combine and most probably Jayalalitha will be the final choice to win South Block.
@SavitriEraParty: @ash_dubey That's a flaw of the Indian Constitution and not any functional laxity on the part of MMS. So, his personal integrity is intact!
@SavitriEraParty: The so called PM candidates of major parties are unfit and undesirable. Let intimate identity sentiments drive organic, State-level voting.
@SavitriEraParty: Dominant parties are neither national in their spread nor ethos. Let the State level players bring their experience in an equal atmosphere.
@SavitriEraParty: Third Front is the best bet for the future of the country. Let a genuine federal polity evolve from the regional and linguistic diversity.
@SavitriEraParty: In view of the changed scenario, SEP is forced to revise its strategy for the Lok Sabha elections: Oppose Congress, BJP-RSS, AAP & the Left.
@SavitriEraParty: @bpandey72 Trusting anonymous entities on Internet is not without its hazards and the Kafkaesque functioning of AAP is certainly repulsive.
@SavitriEraParty: @bpandey72 The question is priority and corruption is a lesser threat at the moment. So if the collective might of Satraps helps, so be it.
@SavitriEraParty: @bpandey72 I'd tend to agree with you here and that's the raison d'ĆŖtre of SEP. The evolution of AAP so far however is deeply disappointing.
@SavitriEraParty: @bpandey72 Reality is the power of drawing votes through imaginative use of Caste, Religion, Regional & Linguistic chauvinism besides Money.
@SavitriEraParty: @bpandey72 Even that's imaginary. Point is not to be swayed away by theoretically reductionist ethical versions of politics & accept reality.
@SavitriEraParty: @bpandey72 I don't believe even AAP is fired by those greater ideals, it has not invested enough to create such a core cadre; no ideology!
@SavitriEraParty: @bpandey72 Honesty perhaps is not the right category to judge politics; its rather Might that's derived from identity, geography & charisma.
@SavitriEraParty: It's really perplexing how by gathering a crowd of a lakh or so imparts the authority & legitimacy of knowing the minds of a billion people.
@SavitriEraParty: @crguna Easy to trust a bud but when human nature is involved the future is not secure. You were suspicious of AAP TN unit yesterday only!
@SavitriEraParty: @crguna Statutory warning: Past performance is no indicator of the future, so beware!
@SavitriEraParty: @thinkoutofbox Any one can be a contender, but where are the numbers? @SavitriEraParty: @thinkoutofbox Please avoid spreading utter lies as revealed truth.
@SavitriEraParty: If Congress is really the brain behind the Kejriwagon phenomenon then its sponsoring CAG's astronomical presumptive losses seem the genesis.
@SavitriEraParty: Stop advising or providing data to parties; they don't need it. Join any party (including SEP) if you are enthusiastic to prove your talent.
@SavitriEraParty: No matter whether Keynes said it or Churchill, but "when the facts change," each and every Aam Admi is entitled to claim "I change my mind."
@SavitriEraParty: Nation-building is not such a cheap undertaking as to be left to the singular preference of thirty-year-old patriots jumping to a bandwagon.
@SavitriEraParty: Never to be deluded by the efficiency of any Govt. or the virtues of some CM or PM. How democratically the Party functions is the real test.
@SavitriEraParty: No one should falsely appropriate the supposed wish of the people. Executing the wish of the Party is the most legitimate function of Govt.
@SavitriEraParty: Though the cornerstone of democracy if a party is incapable of functioning democratically then it's time to call this sham machinery a halt.
@SavitriEraParty: Party apparatuses accurately reflecting demographic spectrum of the nation is the ultimate confirmation of democracy being in pink of health.
@SavitriEraParty: Altering nuts & bolts of party functioning by infusing transparency, delegation and feedback is far more important than changing the System.
@SavitriEraParty: Threadbare discussion on policy issues in a plenary session of a party is a must for nurturing healthy convention in securing authorisation.
@SavitriEraParty: Panchayat is equally vulnerable to being monopolized. Besides, politics itself is a game of charisma and maneuvering. (Wed, July 4, 2012)

@SavitriEraParty: @kiranbatni Civilizational episodes are much longer than the span of human life and so better to make peace with currently reigning flavors!
@SavitriEraParty: Let political conviction be built upon thinking and opinion and not on physical objects of election symbols or wearing theatrical costumes.
@SavitriEraParty: May my countrymen be freed from the obligation of wearing caps, turbans, or such other sartorial devices imposed by religion and politics!
@SavitriEraParty: It's not difficult to spot who profess sobriety in politics today but the youth tend to root for the "teach them a lesson" kind of rhetoric.
@SavitriEraParty: Carnivalism during the election campaign infuses brazenness into the behaviour of political actors while the aim is sober parliamentarianism.
@SavitriEraParty: The political compulsion to win in the elections forces to strike deals and make compromises. Ideology, therefore, is a must to hold ground.
@SavitriEraParty: No pan-Indian campaign has the power to influence the voting behaviour across the country. Political affections and affiliations are local.
@SavitriEraParty: The Delhi-centric view has been to overlook the geographical mosaic of the country but India's polity today is firmly rooted to the ground.
@SavitriEraParty: Like nationhood, Twitter is turning into a Republic of ghettoes depending upon who follows or blocks whom. Not a very desirable spectacle!
@SavitriEraParty: Conversations are subject to inertia of motion which also entertain myriad gestures and emotions and live mode lacks facility of correction.
@SavitriEraParty: 1) The Western, Christian, Modern society, 2) Academic, Secular, Theory-centric studies and 3) Reductionist, Textual world are triple flaws.
@SavitriEraParty: @sabhlok Okay, let's join hands and see how we are able to give the things a practical shape. @SavitriEraParty: @sabhlok @yehlog Great! All the best.
@SavitriEraParty: @santoshk1 Please add Sri Aurobindo to the text so that the tweets appear in search results. Thanks.
@SavitriEraParty: The Constitutional framework surely facilitates economizing on virtue but the evolutionary imperative is following Sri Aurobindian ontology.
@SavitriEraParty: A Party run on the basis of Indian Constitution only can be instrumental in giving a practical shape to the values and visions set therein.
@SavitriEraParty: India is yet to give birth a Party founded on the values that form the core of Indian Constitution. So politics till then is just juvenility.
@SavitriEraParty: Sri Aurobindo underscores the federal spirit of free association, unity and voluntary mutuality driven by fraternal sentiments and harmony.
@SavitriEraParty: The Party in fact is the antithesis of Indian Constitution for in order to fight for right and freedom, first you must lose it to the party.
@SavitriEraParty: RW-wallahs love the freedom of orbiting in their independent trajectories and hate to submit before the discipline & hierarchy of any party.
@SavitriEraParty: Is it too much to ask for a right-leaning party today outside the borders of RSS-BJP? SEP with Sri Aurobindian ontology is the right choice.
@SavitriEraParty: Sri Aurobindo reinvented the Veda by integrating it with Evolutionary teleology so as to serve as the pivot for India & future of humanity.
@SavitriEraParty: Sri Aurobindo has applied broom to centuries old cobwebs that spawn superstition and fuel bigotry. His #FiveDreams vision is the right path.
@SavitriEraParty: How many are willing today to partake of the distilled wisdom of the Vedic tradition from The Life Divine and discover the true Nationalism?
@SavitriEraParty: Collaboration between The Mother & Sri Aurobindo resulted in the publication of the epochal "The Life Divine" in 1914 in the "Arya" journal.
@SavitriEraParty: The Mother's arrival in India in 1914 to meet Sri Aurobindo in Puducherry ranks as one of the most undervalued momentous events in history.
@SavitriEraParty: If behavioural traits transmitting through genes is okay then why objection to professional skills passed on through family and the castes?
@SavitriEraParty: @AgentSaffron There are deeper behavioural traits inscribed in the genes responding to the evolutionary imperatives opted by the individual.

Nationalist ideology under Sri Aurobindian ontology

@SavitriEraParty: @arunmsk I'd request you to start reading/reciting a page of Savitri by Sri Aurobindo on a regular basis for unlocking some newness in life.
@SavitriEraParty: There is no alternative to read and know and Sri Aurobindo has left it all in black and white. Art and poetry, philosophy and politics, Yoga.
@SavitriEraParty: The civilizational experience of the West form a vast canvas over which India has the distinct advantage of painting its future. #FiveDreams
@SavitriEraParty: Sri Aurobindo presents such a lofty notion of nationalism dovetailing  into universalism that mere bread & butter issues find their harmony.
@SavitriEraParty: Power entails development and governance but the greater task for a Party is to inculcate sentiments of unity and optimism among the people.
@SavitriEraParty: No other individual has charted a more elegant evolutionary pathway for India during the last hundred years than Sri Aurobindo. #FiveDreams
@SavitriEraParty: Party affiliations should never act as a repellent for assimilating appropriate intellectual inputs that can nurture an Integral worldview.
@SavitriEraParty: Intellectual underpinning is an essential element of any sound society and without grasping Sri Aurobindo's logic no firm basis is possible.
@SavitriEraParty: @Sheks65 Forming Govt is not the only legitimacy within a democracy especially when Sri Aurobindo's #FiveDreams Manifesto has a wide vision.
@SavitriEraParty: Ideological purity and maturity is far more important for the nation today than juvenile cobbling of motley combination for capturing power.
@SavitriEraParty: Many are wary of multiplicity of parties but then what's the alternative if one disagrees with AAP, BJP-RSS, Congress and the Left ideology?
@SavitriEraParty: Indian Constitution is a fairly decent document to accommodate nationalist sentiment under the overall umbrella of Sri Aurobindian Ontology.
@SavitriEraParty: Immediate electoral gains need not mesmerize us nor warp our strategies. Meeting of minds and ideological convergence is what should endure.
@SavitriEraParty: A huge nation-wide nationalist electoral space is still available that espouses liberalism & refuses to be yoked under the BJP-RSS paradigm.
@SavitriEraParty: Despite being twice-born, BJP is still entangled by the umbilical cord of the RSS and its borrowed cadre and dares not finding its own feet.
@SavitriEraParty: Symbiosis is a major driving force behind evolution but proves detrimental and debilitating in the long run like BJP-RSS or Sonia-Manmohan.

Sri Aurobindo's philosophy, poetry, and social theory

Governance and development torment our planners and lay man alike in India today. The elite is red faced as to why we are lagging behind and for so long. Earlier, the blame was on conquerors and colonialists but now there is no such alibi. So, obviously, something must be lacking in our national character; more aptitudinal than ethical. One such trait is reluctance to spot value.

The neglect of Sri Aurobindo by educated young Indians proves the point. Pretty intelligent people on Twitter are discussing thousand other things but are unwilling to listen a word about Sri Aurobindo. The preeminent place Sri Aurobindo occupies in philosophy, poetry, and social theory is absolutely forgotten whenever a portrait of the modern India is sought to be presented.

TV coverage is setting norms of value and individual priorities in a predominant manner but Internet has also facilitated reading in a big way. So, why this near absence of appreciation for what can be called the single-most reservoir of social capital? No doubt, absence of utilitarian exploitation by way of career avenues is a huge bottleneck but the reigning impression of the teaching of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo being abstract also acts as a dampener.

A national level Institute offering fellowships and part-time employment for prosecuting socio-cultural research around the works of Sri Aurobindo is a necessity now. That such an initiative should generate in the voluntary sector without any dependence on the Govt. is also important. Future progress of India necessitates Sri Aurobindo's Five Dreams taking practical shape and no lesser casual initiative can claim to outpace it. [TNM55]

Sri Aurobindo and the transphysical worlds

Sri Aurobindo was not a historian but a lot of historical accounts can be found in his writings. On many occasions his brush strokes are so broad that multiple factual inconsistencies can be spotted on close scrutiny. At places, Sri Aurobindo describes certain events or episodes of history like he presents an estimate of a person. He, in fact, enters into the spirit and hastens to portray an integral picture while the material details might be lacking such perfection. This is true of all creative writers and nothing can be more vivid in our times than even Heehs skidding.

The difficulty of academic interrogation of Sri Aurobindo, therefore, is enormous since relying upon quotations from his works can be wobbling. Besides, his perceptions differ between his conversations and writings at places pertaining to separate periods of time. The sheer mass of his writings also presents a huge obstacle for obtaining a satisfactory grasp within a reasonable time. Variety and depth also dissuades many young enthusiasts to attempt understanding him in any detail. Nevertheless, it's not impossible to gather an overall emphasis on an unerring, unseen force in all of Sri Aurobindo's writings.

The evolutionary quest for light, freedom, and immortality is the constant theme in Sri Aurobindo's poems and plays, historical narratives and political prophecy. Intellectual growth is not exactly his notion of perfection but the emphasis he puts on it as a tool and a help for further rise into higher rungs of consciousness must receive our attention. Dr. Eric M. Weiss maintains that "Sri Aurobindo's descriptions of transphysical worlds in Part I Book II of his epic poem Savitri, is unparalleled in the English language." [TNM55]

Sri Aurobindo as arbitrator Of history

India stands divided today on the basis of its past. An influential section believes that a glorious account of Indian history has deliberately been sabotaged and hence the same should be reestablished while the more commonsensical view is that the modern generation should steer clear of such uncritical and unsubstantiated tributes to the past. An understanding approach, however, senses some merit in both the standpoints and the challenge, therefore, is how to reconcile the two extremes. The problem is compounded when dominant political parties of the country patronise any one side of the debate and force almost a mythological version of history on cadre, thereby raising a vocal bulwark of support, resistance, and aggression. Not only identity and religion, a whole system of patronage and propaganda grows around the network bordering on a sort of sub-nationalism prospering over a wide diaspora.

In the face of such a dismal scenario, the students of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo find themselves in an extremely advantageous situation barring the fact that they are in an extreme minority. But the fact that the bone of contention is largely intellectual is a precious silver lining with every potentiality of a noon dawning at any moment. Sri Aurobindo, while dealing with the ancient Indian texts with unparalleled insight and analysis, brings the critical tools to the table so that the West is also allowed a level playing field. Anti-colonialist feeling prevalent in India has prevented people from taking sufficient advantage of such an intellectual symbiosis, but The Mother & Sri Aurobindo, through their published works spanning about a hundred volumes, have indeed unveiled a new era of harmony and international understanding.

Hegel and Whitehead, Lao tzu and Nietzsche, diverse streams of world knowledge find a synthesis in Sri Aurobindo's encyclopedic writings. Homer and Heraclitus, Dante and Goethe, all come alive in his portrayals and comparative analyses covering poetry, philosophy, politics, and education. More than anything else, Sri Aurobindo gives us a firm foothold in the midst of history to institute our own measurements and calibrations under the safe authority of his hallowed arbitration. A point of caution here, however, is to avoid rigid literalism and hackneyed fact-fetishism so as to draw freely from Sri Aurobindo's liberating oeuvre. A further unrecognised aspect is any effort to understand the great Master also contributes to the overall urge for global wellbeing and evolution. [TNM55]

A democracy less noisy

The recent political churning in India has proved beyond doubt that despite operational loopholes and shortcomings, a widespread longing for designing a better society grips the youth overwhelmingly. The spirit of sacrifice and selflessness exhibited by countless volunteers is a reminder that the quest for perfection and evolution is on. Sri Aurobindo's vision of the Life Divine, in this context, appears increasingly relevant howsoever far the present situation may be from it. A quiet and firm sense of certitude in its advent on our part is what is wanted especially in view of the Centenary of the book the coming year. Sri Aurobindo's image, unfortunately, has been buried under the popular misconceptions of yoga and meditation but the autonomy of the ontology outlined magisterially in the book The Life Divine must stand on its own. A recent book juxtaposing Sri Aurobindo with Whitehead further enhances the pivotal place The Life Divine occupies in the world of philosophy. It also underscores the receding value of religious notions that linger as superstitions sans any rational justifications.
Thus the fusion of political as well as religious imperatives must be brought into focus for possible acceptance by discerning young minds. The wealth of philosophical training and scientific thinking that Sri Aurobindo brings to the table also needs to be highlighted. The immediate political thrill and pleasures of group dynamics may not be available from the philosophical approach but then the ultimate lesson for democracy is also to be less noisy and showy.

Kejriwal and Kiran as lead pair

Savitri Era Party ‏@SavitriEraParty 2m
The Prafulla Mahanta syndrome too is another dampener for AAP prospects as cynicism overpowers the auto-correcting aspects of Democracy.

Savitri Era Party ‏@SavitriEraParty 9m
The Pramod Mahajan syndrome has altered the Indian politics irrevocably and crony capitalism hardly bothers anyone. AAP not taken seriously.

Savitri Era Party ‏@SavitriEraParty 26m
@Sheks65 2014 will be dominated by internecine fight among regional parties and the confusion generated would be mind boggling. Let's see.

@sabhlok You may be lauded for objectivity, impartiality, & courage but will accused of cruelty! Let him take rest after gruelling campaign.

Savitri Era Party ‏@SavitriEraParty 5h
Just like Delhi weather is National weather on TV, AAP, by virtue of fighting Elections in Delhi, evokes the impression of a National Party.

Savitri Era Party ‏@SavitriEraParty 6h
@omprakashgoenka That, ironically, holds good for the opposite eventuality too.

Savitri Era Party ‏@SavitriEraParty 6h
@Realist_Indian @smarket Being voted to Power precedes any modicum of governance and no escape from this reality which even AAP internalised.

Sri Aurobindo's Vedic dialectic of Integral Evolution

@SavitriEraParty: [The essence of Rig Veda: Sri Aurobindo and Sri Kapāli Sāstry. It has four key steps described briefly [1; 16, Vol.4] http://t.co/Xo4BaIKUup
@SavitriEraParty: [On Mantric Traditions: the teachings of Kukai and Sri Aurobindo by Rod Hemsell] http://t.co/bZ9JX34UPa
@SavitriEraParty: Memorizing the first verse of the Veda is the minimum one can do in honour of such an ancient yet profound poetic wonder. Just 24 syllables.
@SavitriEraParty: Despite the all round moral degeneration, The Mother & Sri Aurobindo never did lose hope. The Veda, The Life Divine, & Savitri are saviours.
@SavitriEraParty: Upon contemplating the probable fate of India after Independence 100 years ago, Sri Aurobindo saw nothing optimistic and opted for the Veda.
@SavitriEraParty: Internet has bestowed too much of wisdom upon too many persons at too young an age. But, their orientation on the Veda would almost be zero!
@SavitriEraParty: Safeguarding secularism may be a noble mission but if it blinds one to riches of the Veda, then that must be labelled as a serious delusion.
@SavitriEraParty: Moral values will never endure by merely relying upon youthful exuberance or devotional preponderance. The Veda is a more secure anchor.
@SavitriEraParty: India was under foreign rule as the Veda was banished from people's memory; Sri Aurobindo enthroned it and India regained its Independence.
@SavitriEraParty: The way Sri Aurobindo decoded the Vedic terminology, The Mother too brought out the significance of flowers by assigning them Vedic values.
@SavitriEraParty: The Vedic transaction is a dialogue involving both ascent and the descent leading to further transformation and conquering of territory.
@SavitriEraParty: Sri Aurobindo picks up the idea of Evolution and Overman from Western discourses but finds their confirmation later in the Vedic utterances.
@SavitriEraParty: The Veda said it 1000s years earlier that human mind has potential of roaming faster than what a Google search command can accomplish today.
@SavitriEraParty: Those who are eager for forecasting Election results can certainly be able to hone their intuition further by uttering certain Vedic hymns.
@SavitriEraParty: The Veda may not be a coherent document for historical or anthropological investigation but has enough fodder for psychological exploration.
@SavitriEraParty: The horse has ceased to be a combat vehicle but the imagery has forever been captured by the Veda to mean war against agents of disharmony.
@SavitriEraParty: It's only by internalizing the priorities enunciated in the Veda that an ideal society can be conceived of like Sri Aurobindo's Life Divine.
@SavitriEraParty: Veda is an altogether different Continent by entering into which one can partake of its savour and not by telescopic observations from afar.
@SavitriEraParty: Quality of life has come to be measured in terms of skyscrapers but the adventure of consciousness the Veda facilitates has no competitors.
@SavitriEraParty: Worshippers of liberty are often dismayed by their pet projections going haywire but fail to realize that thwarts are of Vedic stipulations.
@SavitriEraParty: Semiology hypothesizes divergence between the text and the addressee but The Veda's mantric lift can be a means to hearken to the originary.
@SavitriEraParty: The hermeneutic of the Veda is not to be confused with that of any subsequent Karika or the Gita. Sri Aurobindo takes us to the very source.
@SavitriEraParty: Even the distribution of portfolios in deference to gender aptitude and specialisations offers a very interesting area of study in the Veda.
@SavitriEraParty: The Veda not only gives the clue to fathom taxonomy of human temperaments but also geographical attributes ruling over psychological traits.
@SavitriEraParty: Those who are too bothered about Equality better consult Bhaga of the Veda who presides over all distribution and notion of share and quota.
@SavitriEraParty: Harbouring political ambition or seeking power are often held as pejorative but the Veda thinks it otherwise. Aryaman is the ideal of force.
@SavitriEraParty: Fighting against corruption & misconduct is surely a Vedic imperative since light & transparency are primordial elements of human Evolution.
@SavitriEraParty: Regional saint poets of yesteryears were responsible for distancing the Veda from popular appreciation and Sri Aurobindo reverses that flaw.
@SavitriEraParty: Sri Aurobindo also liberates the Veda from meaningless ritual & turns it accessible to people of all cultures as a tool for self-perfection.
@SavitriEraParty: Through his inimitable translations and unsurpassed commentaries Sri Aurobindo has transformed the Veda into a universal document of ethics.
@SavitriEraParty: Land of its origin or language in which it is written are insignificant aspects in comparison to overall worth of content the Veda uncorks.
@SavitriEraParty: When we extol the Knowledge Society & Transparency, it's basically Varuna in the Vedic diction the "oceanic vastness" of which Twitter aims.
@SavitriEraParty: What we call Multiculturalism, Diversity, or a Tolerant society today is nothing but the domain of the Vedic Mitra seen as a political goal.
@SavitriEraParty: The Veda is the repository of all values, both human and Divine, and verily the fount of all Codes & Constitutions of various Civilisations.
@SavitriEraParty: It's instructive to approach the Veda sans poetic embellishments & the Deities as sheer powers shorn of latter day mythological distortions.
@SavitriEraParty: Man's petition to Deity in the Veda in fact constitutes the dialectic between the actual and the possible and quenches quest for perfection.
@SavitriEraParty: Even learning about a solitary term of the Veda can alter the whole perspective of life and priorities. Sri Aurobindo invites to adventure.
@SavitriEraParty: Neither the Leftists nor the Right Wing stalwarts have anything to do with the Veda; they even ignore Sri Aurobindo but worship mediocre.
@SavitriEraParty: Not the mythological stories that are merely faraway symbols but the original invocations of the Veda leading to man's perfection must rule.
@SavitriEraParty: Veda also presents an interesting spectacle of not giving way to reductionistic ontology of Upanishads thus defending postmodernist terrain.
@SavitriEraParty: Sri Aurobindo exhorts every Indian to rescue the Veda from disuse and to seek the enlightened company of Mitra and Varuna, Mahi and Sarama.
@SavitriEraParty: The Veda neither needs temples nor statues, neither havan nor chantings rendered with bodily gestures. It must suffuse our minds and senses.
@SavitriEraParty: The Veda not only gives the key to stray into higher levels of cognition but also imparts rare poetic sensibilities from unimagined regions.
@SavitriEraParty: For millions of Indians the Veda is a closed book, used during the funeral rituals. Sri Aurobindo says it's the book of life and aspiration.
@SavitriEraParty: The fact that so much of disinformation pervades Twitter, it's also a Veda-ordained task to expose perpetrators of falsehood & lie-peddlers.
@SavitriEraParty: Veda is replete with allusions to war and prayers for victory. Sri Aurobindo identifies it as fight for light waged since prehistoric days.
@SavitriEraParty: The clarity with which Sri Aurobindo has depicted the course of future human Evolution is not unrelated to his overall political projection.
@SavitriEraParty: The role of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo during the WW-II is proof enough that their joint agenda has significant future political dimensions.
@SavitriEraParty: Let the elixir of the Veda - and not alcohol - be the companion of youth in a prosperous India that leads the world towards the Life Divine.
@SavitriEraParty: The Veda shows us the path of life, tells its destination, armours against adversaries & keeps reminding of the final victory against death.
@SavitriEraParty: Europe was engulfed in War and whole West was gasping for breath under Existentialism is when Sri Aurobindo revealed the Secret of the Veda.
@SavitriEraParty: Technology has put us in a flux & it's futile to fulminate against contesting cultural norms. The Veda conversely anchors the core concerns.
@SavitriEraParty: The great men that are eulogized day in and day out are ignorant of the Veda. Only Sri Aurobindo understood which he brings out in Savitri.
@SavitriEraParty: To be young and educated but not conscious of the challenges of life and society is a colossal delusion. The Veda alerts us to adversaries.
@SavitriEraParty: Science is yet to be sure whether the Universe is continuous or discontinuous but the Human destination is starkly demonstrated in the Veda.
@SavitriEraParty: Most philosophical streams have been able to explain the problems of life and perception quite excellently but they call it a day midstream.
@SavitriEraParty: Poverty, no doubt, is a potent political issue but the real issues are beyond economics. The Veda awakens us to the deeper concerns of man.
@SavitriEraParty: The contribution of Indian psychology to the emergence of a subjective and spiritual age (Sri Aurobindo)by Don Salmon http://t.co/UmfoMtjfGg
@SavitriEraParty: The Veda is the foundation of ethics and excellence and Sri Aurobindo has enhanced its core relevance by yoking it to the future Evolution.
@SavitriEraParty: Neither Nehru nor Radhakrishnan forbid anyone from studying the works of Sri Aurobindo but our columnists & analysts blame education system.
@SavitriEraParty: The Veda is too vast is a clever pretext to avoid it. But what prevents to learn about a single term like Agni, Arya or Ratna to start with?
@SavitriEraParty: Why blame Nehru if you are unwilling to read even a page of The Secret of the Veda authored by Sri Aurobindo that's freely available online?
@SavitriEraParty: Greenhorns ticking off Sri Aurobindo on Twitter is so laughable that one only prays for this country & English-knowing citizenry in silence!
@SavitriEraParty: How can those who are so concerned about the erroneous Aryan Invasion Theory (AIT) be so complacent regarding right interpretation of Veda?
@SavitriEraParty: Most people would pretend as if the Veda doesn't exist & so-called votaries of Hindu religion are silent about it. Why? Who has authorised?
@SavitriEraParty: Understanding Lal-Bal-Pal individually is essential and more important is how Sri Aurobindo went many steps ahead to reinterpret scriptures.
@SavitriEraParty: No one has any right to call himself a Hindu unless he reads and understands the Veda the way Sri Aurobindo has unveiled its potent secrets.
@SavitriEraParty: Mechanical recitation and foolishly listening to chanting has spawned a culture of anti-intellectualism for which Sri Aurobindo is antidote.
@SavitriEraParty: Misguided reading of ancient texts has been the bane of Indian society for Centuries and Sri Aurobindo alone is the sun who dispels darkness.
@SavitriEraParty: A thumb rule for present generation is not to accept any text or scripture without consulting Sri Aurobindo's opinion on it & allied books.
@SavitriEraParty: It's definitely preferable to take guidance regarding life and action from the sayings of The Mother & Sri Aurobindo instead of present owls.

Rock and torch

The books by The Mother & Sri Aurobindo are the best antidote for the sophisticated seeming web of a bunch of Hindu Bhindranwales on Twitter.

Today when the world is groping under ideological confusion and metaphysical ambivalence, The Mother & Sri Aurobindo stand as rock and torch.

The Mother's groundbreaking work in Puducherry spanning six decades has hardly attracted attention of historians chronicling nation building.

Gokhale went to South Africa to meet Gandhi in 1912 as per British conspiracy. The Mother came to meet Sri Aurobindo in 1914 to negate that.

All those who feel that Sri Aurobindo has not got his due must come forward to express their gratitude on his passing away day on December 5.

If anyone or organization is planning a function on the passing away anniversary of Sri Aurobindo on December 5 please notify it on Twitter.

Sri Aurobindo's birthday on August 15 drowns in the Independence Day din. Let the nation remember him in a befitting fashion on December 5.

Sri Aurobindo is the greatest poet and author the world has produced so far. Digesting even a morsel is worth it from this 20th Century seer.

Election fever will be over on 4th. Please visit your nearest Sri Aurobindo Centre to pay homage on his passing away anniversary on 5th Dec.

@kuffir @sanjeevsanyal Sri Aurobindo is the safest framework to scrutinize anything from the tradition or the contemporary repertoire in.

Sri Aurobindo gave the Darwinian version of Evolution a wheel to move forward and a mirror to look back at the dawn. amazon.com/Evolution-Reli…

@sahilkhatri82 Wonderful but the image Nagpur evokes today is the Kafkaesque caucus called RSS that prevents flow of Sri Aurobindo's thought.

Sri Aurobindo's support for Allies in WW-II, Cripps offer, Wavel plan, Cabinet Mission, and #FiveDreams speech on Aug 14,1947 are landmarks.

Sri Aurobindo seems not very particular about the popular notion of reward or punishment for action but the Tehelka episode validates Karma!

RW stalwarts mortgaging their intelligence to Quixotic fantasy is a greater tragedy than India refusing the Cripps offer seven decades back.

Two decades have elapsed after End of History but the Left-Right divide refuses to die. Let's hope #AAP bridges the gap & ushers in Harmony.

Each vote for AAP in Delhi is a vote against medieval obscurantism espoused by RSS/BJP and the dynastic enslavement imposed by the Congress.

No need to dream of exotic revolutions like Spring or Jasmine since voting for the humble broom of AAP can cleanse the dirt of the nation.
