The writings of Sri Aurobindo must find its place in the educational curricula

[Axed! UK schools no longer teach Churchill. from The Daily Goose Two-finger salute By DAVID WOODING Whitehall Editor July 13, 2007 FURY erupted last night after Sir Winston Churchill was axed from school history lessons...Instead they will be taught about “relevant” issues such as global warming and drug dangers...Churchill — voted the greatest ever Briton — goes off the required lessons list, along with Hitler, Gandhi, Stalin and Martin Luther King.]
The writings of Sri Aurobindo are yet to find its well deserved place in the educational curricula of our country. And this is due to political resistance and not for academic reasons. The efforts of our old war horses have not been successful during the last half century. Savitri Erans will have to mount an adequate offensive to achieve this aim. Raising the decibel level is the need of the hour. [TNM]

  1. Tusarji, as you have rightly pointed out , this is one of the greatest tragedies of our educational system that Sri Aurobindo has been totally eclipsed from the educational curriculum. The reason is predominantly political, Sri Aurobindo harmonises & our present tribes of politician are busy dividing & splintering therefore they find him to inconvenient to be projected. There is another category the politically patronised intelligentia - these species lack depth & width & have mostly a uni-dimensional thought process. They find it difficult to understand Sri Aurobindo & when they do they simply plagiarise his thoughts. There is another category of politicians who use him to suit there grooved position & thus freely quote from a part of his writings while copnveniently omitting the larger whole. I think an open debate must begin on the issue & as you said Savitri Erans, instead of lamenting the omission must step up the offensive for inclusion. Sri Aurobindo's programme if implemented can make the country very strong, very strong is what Mother had categorically stated & inclusion of his thoughts in educational system is imperative & the first step towards a greater resurgence. We have complained for too long & it has changed nothing, we have to act now!
